Do you clean barrel between different powders during load workup???

Everything has to be verified.

I wonder how many people use wind flags when verifying?

How about noting shooting conditions at that time, or time of day, early morning, mid day(YIKES), or late afternoon.

Not to mention the application or shooting discipline to be considered.

If it makes you feel good and have confidence in cleaning in between powders, then you should absolutely do it. Building confidence in your loads and equipment is what it is all about.

I can remember the old time benchrest shooters cleaning in between shots, shooting 10 shot groups at 200 yards, which really impressed me as a teenager.

I've certainly noticed that changing ammo typically results in the next few rounds displaying worse than normal accuracy. So yes, if the results are important to me, I'd either clean or have sufficient foulers to get beyond whatever it is that causes that.

Yes to the above. It is also more apparent in shooting .22lr's with a difference in lubes as well.

I had a gunsmith friend swear to me that when working up loads that it was mandatory to clean out the barrel before going to different loads that contain different powders... something about the powder residue not mixing well together. What do you guys think?

Your Gunsmith friend is right.
This is very noticeable with Match great rimfire rifles shooting different 22lr match ammo.

If I'm working up loads with different powders and since I hate cleaning, I just run a bore snake 3 to 4 times down the barrel with the snake venom solution and gun oil on the bore snake between powder types.

When shooting 22lr match ammo I also run a bore snake down the barrel a few times between different ammo.

Yes, between powders and when switching between bullets with the same powder. Truly amazing how much difference it can make.

As mentioned above, the bore snake trick works wonders as well.
