Do it yourself Stock making thread

That one will finish really nice and be around for a long time. Definitely has some age to it..
Yep. A friend and I split several blanks out of Winslow Arms before they closed shop. I still have a Black Myrtle blank I doubt I’ll use. But might.

The shotgun blanks that were still there were phenomenal… a lot of AAA and AAAA. All of them more oversized than what’s on the market nowadays.

So, my goal was a single shot. Cudos to a friend of mine for milling the follower for me yesterday. LA Remington from PT&G. Looks much better than my initial idea, feeds slicker than snot on a frost covered dock…

Forgot I had this blank… 20 years ago, when I got it, the humidity here caused a couple cracks. One corner looked like it took a hit during shipping. I put it in the corner of the closet and forgot about it, figuring I’d come up with something. Knife handles or pistol grips being the most likely.

Well, that XP 100 thread got me thinking…

Watching this one. I bought a Savage Stryker and the new Dasher barrel is too fat to fit the factory stock, so…
It will be my first pistol stock.

What brand of dye is that? I live how vivid and clean the colors are.
WD Lockwood Golden Walnut water based powder dye, mixed with alcohol. And Transtint Mahogany liquid alcohol dye mixed in by drop count. One maybe two applications of Linspeed finish. Second down on the right is starting point drop wise, increasing moving to the top left.

Locally all I could find was Mahogany, I wanted more vivid red, but the Transtint reaction with the wood ranged from a light purple going into a truer mahogany color.

It crossed my mind that a paper coffee filter would capture the larger particles of the water based powder, but haven’t moved towards that yet.

Found a surprise crack when I started thinning the grip to contour last week. Not certain how it’ll turn out, but I was too many hours along to abandon it.
