Do I want a rifle in 221 Fireball?

I have a 204 Ruger but have always wanted a rifle chambered in 221 Fireball as the round was the happening thing when I was a kid. I have a chance to get a new rifle in that round but is the round still the thing to have or is it just another round to load for. Its a new rifle not an older one and its a modern stainless heavy barrel in 1-12 twist and 20 inches long. For me it will be groundhogs and mostly paper shooter. Not including the cost of the rifle its going to cost near $300 for good dies and Lapua brass for it.

Do you want a rifle in .221 Fireball?? That's a silly question. SURE YOU DO!:D
Mild mannered, easy to load for and fun to shoot besides being deadly accurate.
As you might guess, I'am a .221 Fireball lover from WAY BACK.
And a factory chambered rifle in .221 Fireball IS the way to go.
Remington XP 100 chambered in .221 Fireball?
Remington XP 100 action, rebarreled and chambered in .221 Fireball and converted into a rifle?:cool:
Need I say more?:):)

I've always wanted one as well, maybe I'll do up one of the Savages.............

Keep us posted, please.

I've had a lot of different 22 calibers in my time that have come and gone, but since my first 221FB I've always had one and probably always will.
It's hard to explain and difficult to understand until you fire one, then you'll know.

Yes, you certainly do want a 221 Fireball rifle, as the fella said above, easy to load, fun to shoot, and with my custom barrel, quite an accurate round.
Small rounds are fun to shoot, and easy on the shoulder, which is important for us older shooters.

IDK Lefty it is a kinda "wanna" 4 me. Funny story, somebody gave me a full box of Rem ammo for the 221 Fireball Way back in the Seventies. Every time I saw an XP pistol , it was never enough of a deal for me to jump on it. So about ten years ago I gave that vintage box of ammo away to some deserving soul. Fast forward to today. If I saw a CZ 527 w the single set trigger, super light Wt Carbine. Put the Fireball next to my preferred Tac 20. No contest, I'd jump for the Tac 20 chambering. Plus a short heavy barrel is not my idea of a sneak around the pasture, taking a walk with kind of rifle. I hope this helps you decide. mike in CT who hunts in Pa.

Another big "YES" for the 221FB!

My Cooper M38 Phoenix in 221FB proved to be so much fun and accurate, I just had to have another one for rock chuck walkabouts, so I snagged a CZ 527 American in 221FB. The little round never ceases to make me smile...almost no recoil, see all your hits/misses, miserly on powder, and as accurate as you'd ever want or expect.

Here's why varmints here fear my "Furballs"....

My two all-time favorite calibers for rats and chucks are the 20VT and the 221FB. No big blast, just barrels of fun and being wicked accurate at the same time. Although the "fun" part may not be mutual for some rock chucks....

I'm not sure how a guy could have any more fun with only 18.5 grains of powder! :)

I think the important thing to remember when buying a gun is that practicality has absolutely no place in the decision making process. You are looking at it because you are interested in it and you think it will be fun to shoot. So if the bills are paid I would say it's time for some fun, buy it, shoot it and have fun.

Lefty I don't know if you would be interested. I have a 221 Remington 700 in a mountain rifle McMillan stock. aluminum pillar bedded and accurized by Clarence Hammond. roughly 400 pieces of Remington brass. forster benchrest dies. rifle in perfect condition and shoots in the threes. $1500.00 and you pay shipping. im thinning the herd. pm me if interested.

As already been posted GetOne!One of my favorite rifles I’ve ever had is my 221fb.Mine is the stainless fluted with a ?bell and calson stock factory remington 700.Its all factory never been messed with and all I’ve shot is factory nosler ammo through it and it shoots excellent.Wears a vx11 4x12x40ao luepold and is about a perfect walk around short range varmint rifle as I could ever want.I probably paid to much but it has low round count and one of the best centerfire rifles to introduce a youngster to.

Yeah sure bring this up when I have all but talked myself into a 22Nosler for a Howa mini. o_O

You don't want a 22 Nosler with the rebated rim...bad design. If you are wanting something faster than 223 then go 223AI (100-150 fps faster) with plenty of brass available to easily form cases.

You definitely want a 221 Fireball of 20 Vartarg!

I always wanted a custom 221 fireball with an extra long throat for 95 grain match kings/ 6.5twist barrel and a suppresser. Subsonic yeah! Thermal yeah!

I've always wanted one as well, maybe I'll do up one of the Savages ???.........
Better think real hard on that. It'll have to be single feed cause the short case won't feed and will pop off the bolt before it gets to the port. Been there, had that problem and went single shot on all my Savage rigs just because of that problem. If you go single feed, pull the ejector pin and spring and the case will stay on the bolt head till you pick it off.;)
