Do I need to lap?

Bought a set of Seekins 34mm scope rings to mount a S&B PMII. Do I need to lap the rings before I mount the scope? Some say it’s needed others say it’s not. I don’t own a lapping kit and doubt I would use it much. If I took it to a gunsmith to mount the scope are they going to lap it? If I needed to buy one is there one that could do 30mm and 34mm?

ive had Seekins mark my scopes a few times. i would definitely have them checked and lapped if needed...which was more than half the time in my experience.

Better yet, get some NF or Badger rings which never mark any of my scopes

Machining tolerance for actions, mounts and rings is very generous, I have an action from one of the best makers and it is .023 under sized from the stated diameter, I would bed the base and lapp the rings. One the way would be to bed the rings to the scope. ..... jim

Not that I’m doing it the right way. I have got by without lapping Seekins or Talley aluminum rings. They are machined well and have not left ring marks on scopes. But use your own judgment when laying your scope in there before tightening down.

I have lapped exactly one set of rings ever and they were Talley LW.

No, I would not lap the rings.

I have also never one time gotten rings marks. I think if you follow the directions and use a torque wrench you won’t either.
