DIY Benchrest Shooting Rests

Thinking about starting a company: Newton Redneck Gunwerks! I purchased a scissor jack for $30 and a lab jack for $16. I took the top off an old Caldwell rest I had, along with the hand wheel. Two springs take any slack out of the jack up front.IMG_1632.jpegIMG_1632.jpeg

That is different, to say the least. If it works, that’s the main thing.

I give you an A+ for thinking out of the box.

some 25 years ago we scrapped out a little South Bend 10 inch lathe. I took the compound and made a windage top out of it.

I am still using it to this day.IMG_1039.jpeg

Looks like you got your money's worth from that rear bag as well. Lol! $7000 worth of rifle/scope on $70 rest and bag....I like it!

That’s cool! So far my system works fine.
The scissor concept has many uses. Here is a heavy duty roller rest we built for one of our Submerged Arc Welding Machines.

I can support tremendous weight.

Now that’s heavy duty!!

I got bored and built a new front rest a while back. Had a scrap piece of 1/2" AR400 plate at work, ordered some rubber feet / knobs from McMaster-Carr, along with a scissor lift from Amazon and put it together in a couple days.
It works really well!

Shade Tree top. The base is fabbed from a 3 1/4” coupling bolt and nut out of a large steam turbine. The stud offers a course adjustment and the 1” stem on the top finer adjustment. Weighs in just under 28 lbs.
