Distance above line of sight

Don't know if it is correct, im no expert, but sterlock pro gives 16.9 feet trajectory height, 308 shooting 178amax at 2644fps.

Tripdad,
That sounds close but most 1000 yard shooters would push that velocity a bit.

CharlieNC,
A friend will bail you out after a drunken brawl - a best friend will be sitting right next to you saying, "That was a GREAT fight!"
If you get to SE Washington state I'll take you out to the local range and we can shoot to 600 yards. If it's on a second Saturday I will drag you out to a rimfire silhouette match and after that is over we can shoot falling plates or head to the rifle range or to the shotgun range. On the 4th Saturday we shoot 3 gun matches. If you want to shoot an old smoke pole the first Sundays are the muzzle loader shoots. There is always something going on. I can bring a best friend to the range for free but we all pay to compete.

Ran it through the Hornady 4DOF ballistics calculator. Zero at 1,000 yards, 2600 fps (Hornady's load), 2" scope height, 1,000 ft altitude, Barometer of 29.92, 50% humidity, and shooting north or south, so no Coriolis effect and mid Ohio as a latitude. maximum height over line of sight is 141.53" (about 11.8') at 570-575 yards according to their calculator.

A couple of us old guys drive from NC to SD, Co, NM to hunt in the Fall. I have contemplated trying to setup a shooting tour across the country, making stops for fun Shoots along the way. All the way to Wa would make my first cross country drive, and I'm sure it would be fun; always great to shoot with new guys.

At a 1000yds where I am a 308 rises approximately 12ft above line of sight to the center of the target. That's using 155.5gn Berger Fullbores at 3040fps.

I hope to build a circular tunnel to fly my lear jet around in,,,,,,,just having truble getting runway lighting worked out,,,Roger,,,
just kidding ,,,I only fly my lear jet on sunny days,,,and one time while shooting across a valley I realized tht the power lines that I was shootin under were dangerously close to the bullet when I shot undter it at a target,,,,we need to always be aware of bullet path ,,,

I know nothing about this project and my first question would be 'does one exist somewhere?' That would possibly give a lot of answers as to cost and practicality. Where I live it would require that machine that ate its way thru rock that dug the Chunnel!

Using the online Hornady and Berger Ballistic Calculators, which yielded practically the same results, and using Excel, I came up with the following:

308 Trajectory 100 - 1000.jpg

284 Trajectory 100 - 1000.jpg
