Disabled shooters.

Sorry it's so grainy, but I had a 22 inch incision from behind the knee towards the ankle where they tried to graft a nerve. Most painful of the 20 surgeries. View attachment 1091092
Paula,
I'm a member at SIRPC where John belongs. We have a bench at 500yds you can use during F-Class matches. We have moved to the Shotmarker targets for F- Class so there is no pit duty anymore. We would love to have you. (and John)
As timing would have it, this Saturday 2/23 is our annual F-Class clinic for new shooters and anyone interested in F-Class. This is a classroom full day workshop on F-Class. Next Saturday 3/2 is an actual 3 X 500yd match that is included in the clinic. All classroom participants are squaded with experienced F-Class shooters and coaching is allowed for this match only. This has been a really good success for our program getting new shooters into F-Class. Currently we have 20 participants signed up for this years clinic. There is a nominal fee of $40 that covers the cost of the clinic and the match on 3/2. You do not need be a member of the club to attend the clinic or shoot any of our matches. We are open to all interested. If you are interested PM me and I will get you all the info you need and how to register. All participants also get a workbook used in the class to take home. If these dates don't work well with you schedule, you are always welcome to come to the range on a match day and watch. We will be happy to show you the ropes and if its a good fit for your interest.
Todd

Edit: The picture from the Soutwest Nationals above is of Bob Deep. He shoots with us when he can.

So you all know my son can shoot,

How old is your son?

Many of us are firm believers that any able bodied person ( especially young people ) that has any interest in MARKSMANSHIP should shoot Service Rifle.

There's always time left after the body can't physically shoot from position for Prone F class and bench rest.

Is there anyplace near you with ranges that have Service Rifle Matches?

Have him read this https://nfga.org/highpower/pdfs/basic_highpower_info/SR_Shooting_Guide_AMU031204.pdf

He can do bench and prone with you too but you would enjoy taking him to matches and watching him excel in a more challenging hobby.

I hope you have a speedy and full recovery!

George

Edit to Add:
There was no disrespect intended in my post. Sorry to you or anyone else that read that into it.

It's a well known (obvious) fact that it takes more matches / years to go from beginner to High Master level scores in XTC Service Rifle than it does in F / FTR Class.

It's also more physically demanding starting a match at say 8am and finishing by around 3pm shooting offhand and sitting rapid at 200 yards, rapid prone at 30 yards and slow prone at 600 yards all out in the elements along with pulling targets for all those stages and with no covered firing lines.

That in no way implies that F / FTR while laying on the ground without having to shoot from a sling supported position can't be challenging.

Just that service rifle / match rifle sling XTC position shooting is clearly more challenging and requires more years to progress to Highmaster level scores.

Repeat, In no way meant to hurt feelings of people that enjoy participating and excelling as belly only or bench shooters.

Have to agree to disagree with you on that statement! I learned a long time ago to respect the discipline regardless of your personal feelings. I've shot Service, F-Class, and Bench. All have their unique fundamentals and all are extremely challenging and more importantly fun. I would never publicly rank one over the other from a "more challenging" perspective as that is disrespectful to all that participate in their choice.
For what its worth not all people shooting F-Class and BR do so because they're getting older and the jackets are getting harder to sling up in. I travel the US and Canada shooting F-Class and the youth programs are starting to thrive. We have a young lady out of our club SIRPC (13yrs old) I believe, that is shooting on the US Jr F-Class team. There were more JR members at the Southwest Nationals this past week than I've ever seen. Whatever discipline chosen will give many fun memories........it certainly has for me!

Thanks guys. I've only shot my 22 and 45 for targets. I've shot trap 1x but I have a clotting autoimmune disease that I'm on high dose blood thinners for. The day I shot 50 trap I bleed into the joint of my shoulder. I wish I could go Sat, but over the next 6 weeks John is shooting somewhere except for 1 weekend & doing a shooting fundraiser for the team that weekend. Figure I'll rest when I'm dead.

I don't think anyone took offense, or should have. It's true a match is an all day thing. We had our sporter match and I'm the ORION girl. Started at 7am, ended after 3. Thing is over 3 years I seen matches won by 150s/300 to now 270/300 same kids, but massive improvement. They are young and eager to best each other. Three of them, my son is one, go tic for tat setting new highs. It's so impressive that I'd work all day to be around them. I'm thinking of having 1 more big surgery to replace my worn knee on my good leg. It's a risk messing with my good one, but it's a chance to walk without nearly as much pain. I'm still thinking it over. Continuing to be an active mom is one really good reason.

John is 17, and a pretty good kid. I can't walk well in the woods so he or his dad pack me to my spot. John normally stays because my disabled hunting license allows him to tag my game. Shoot 3 years ago I got a doe on crutches. John can out shoot me in any discipline, but it's still fun.
