dimpled bullets

Read about the more pointed bullets. Just curious I do not hit golf balls,,with a club). But think I heard the dimples cause the golf ball to go farther.

What would happen to the flight of a bullet with dimples???

Just askin.

I would suspect it would not be of any benefit unless shooting subsonic bullets. The dimples would affect the shockwaves formed as the bullet passes the speed of sound leading to an unstable projectile.

Harvey,
Good question.
The riflings act alot like dimples.
Here's a link to another thread where a guy asked about the effects of riflings. My reply,on the second page) talks about what the riflings effect.
The previous post was correct in saying that dimples would work better for subsonic applications. For supersonic flight, you want more subtle surface features to avoid creating excessive shock-waves.
