Digital scale question

Fx120i fixes all of these problems.

still trying to decide whether the problems are $750 worth of problem. Even with all the "problems" I crank out a load a minute seated and get SD's well into the single digits. But then I am the kind of guy who keeps his vehicle for 10+ years and then buys a 3 year old model to replace it becasue he hates depreciation

I bought my setup over a year ago and then they went on sale. Not sure if they still go on sale but remember seeing an discount in a thread somewhere.

I have a Pact scale and powder throw that I was using before fx120. It does not get much now.

For me the fx120 is worth the extra money. I have zero buyer’s remorse.

Does the FX120i still go on sale in the $500 range at times?
There are several discount scale sellers. Old Will Knott scales, balances.com, and affordablescales.com . Any scales that come from Europe will encounter the Euro vs US dollar price difference. So that price will vary week to week.

Seems to always be "on sale" here: https://ce-products.myshopify.com/ . The price does fluctuate from time to time due to $CAN vs $US.

The price shown will be ~750, but using the discount code "CAMBRIDGE" at checkout today reduces the price to $477 including taxes.

Cambridge Environmental is a Canadian supplier that ships through a US warehouse. At least that's what happened when I bought mine from them before Adam's Autotrickler debuted. They also offer packages that include Adam's add-ons.

that might just push me over the edge

Two thumbs up for A&D FX-120, it's money well spent! It takes about 15 seconds to dump and trickle up a load. I would buy another if mine failed today!

if they are still selling them next month below $500 I probably will, bookmarking their page. What's another scale in the stable ?
There’s nothing else in that price range. You either spend $500 on an FX or $1,000 on a Sartorious. Nothing else I know of in either range that’s worth looking at.

Not only that but those are the only two scales they will interface with the auto-trickler so if that is something you’re considering it has to be one of those two units.

Ok I don’t mind asking questions, so here goes. It looks like the fx has a draft shield, does this have to be used? If I used this scale I would throw short on the uniflow measure and then trickle up with a regular old rcbs trickler. Would this work on this scale?

Yes, that's the way and yes it will work.

You can use a standard hand trickler, a powered trickler like the Dandy or Hornady, or you can use Adam's trickler.

You don't have to use the draft shield . . . if there are ABSOLUTELY no drafts. None. With a manual trickler you might be able to cut a hole in the shield and prop up either the scale or the trickler to get them at matching heights . . . if the trickle tube is long enough.

What I first did was buy a "wooden" storage cube (a 5 sided box) and put the scale and a Dandy inside the box. That protected the scale from drafts very well in my room. The Dandy is powered, so my hand did not have to squeeze inside the box to do the trickling.

When I got tired of having to be at the scale for the entire process, I bought Adam's AutoTrickler and put it inside the box.

Finally I added the AutoThrow which sits on top of the scale's shield. Works fine, no more box . . . I think it's in the laundry room now :)

ETA: On the FX, it's also possible that you can leave out installing 2 of the 4 plexiglass panels of the draft shield . . . one in front for pan access and one on the (eg) right side for trickler use, so not cutting a panel. Might work in your room.

On my FX and auto-trickler I drilled a hole on the right for the trickler and cut the front shield in half so I have 3.5 of the draft shields being used.
