I am relatively new to reloading and still learning.

I want to try VihtaVuori powder for .308 (168 & 175 grain) and the 6.5CM (123,129,140,142 grain)

Which powder/s would you recommend for me to start on?

I see on their site that 140, 150, 160, 550 and others are good for the mentioned calibers and grains. But where do I start? Do I just a couple of pounds each and see how each performs?

Thanks for your replies.

555 is supposed to be a very good/new powder and comparable to H4350 so definitely think about that for the 6.5. Also should add I just got a bunch of 540 to try in my BR... it’s roughly in the Varget range

I have used VV 150 and 160 in my 308 and 150 may work in the 6.5 as well...although
I use Varget in my 6.5 and RL16 is ever better with the 140gr Bergers.
Just some more stuff to think about....Keep it simple at first and just pick a powder for each and a
Bullet for each...like 168 SMK for 308 and 140 Berger for 6.5.....That combo works for me.
The 140 SMK works real well behind the RL16 ..just my 2c

I've been debating on switching over to VihtaVouri recently.
With the shortages about, while a little more expensive than Alliant, Hodgdon, the VihtaVouri has been readily available locally.

I shot 550 from my 6.5 CM on Friday. Not bad but I need a better load and Seating depth test. I had loaded it in August and just got to shoot it.

N-150 ,R-15, H-4895, 4064,4320@R-19 have worked in .308

The Shooters World S062 is making .308 Fans Happy also VG in .223

Have there 4350 on Back Order ?

Finding Powder is the Trick as of late !!

I have .308 and 6.5 CRM.
For .308 168gr/175gr and 6.5 CRM 123gr N150 has been best. For 6.5CRM 140/142gr I have used earlier N550 but now switching to N555, main reason is that N555 is more temperature stable and it does not leave barrel so dirty as N550.
I have got best results with mentioned powders about 87-95% of maximum vihtavuori table loads

If you don't have lots of powder already in hand and are stocking up for the first time I would consider picking a powder that is a low heat powder and easy on barrels. H1000 , Hybrid 100V, and VV165 come to mind, but here is a chart here in the article section that will have more. You talk about a 6.5 so I assume that you mean a creedmoor, I would bet VV160 or VV165 would be ideal for that gun.

I have worked with IMR4064 & Varget with pretty good results. But I do want to venture into other powders like Vihtavuori & Shooters world.

Thank you all for your replies.
