Dies that size the base of case

Does anyone know if there are any dies made that will resize the base of the of a fired case just above the extractor groove?
Particularly for the 300 WSM????

I have fired cases that measure .556-.557". They need to be sized down to .552-.553...
All of the sizing dies I currently have, will not touch that area. I have used Reading, RCBS, Forster, Lee, etc with no luck. I know that there were some custom dies made in the past but are no longer available.

Any suggestions????

Innovative Technologies makes a die designed to size that area on Belted Magnums. I have used it on once-fired brass I purchased that was oversized at the base. The die worked great for getting the brass into spec for MY chamber. Never would have been able to use the brass if it wasnt for Larry's Belted Magnum Collet sizing die. Though it is designed to work on belted magnums, I think it might work for beltless and rimless cases as well. Though I have never tried it. I posted a link to their web site below. The die is listed down towards the bottom. Find Larry's (owner) phone number on the web site and give him a call. He will be able to tell you for sure if it will work on a rimless case or not. Good luck.

I called him already and he pretty much sticks by the belted mags. He said it probably wouldn't work on a WSM.
Thanks

Oh ok. Thought it was worth a try. The other option is to order a custom small base sizing die from a manufacturer like Whidden. Can give them a call as well and ask about it. Whidden can make you pretty much any type of die you can dream up. Especially easy for them if you have a finish reamer drawing for your chamber

Good idea. I will give him a call. Thanks for the info! I just wanted to see if there were any manufacturers that make them commercially.

^^^ What Eddie said.

One thing you can do is cut the top-shoulder off an existing sizer. Then take .005" off the bottom also. The case will just be sized at the bottom then, I call it a base die.
Your smith should do this for free, sounds like one oversized chamber.
Pm your email address and I'll send a pic.

Does Paul (Pbike257) make them for the WSM's? If he still makes his "ring dies",
I think they do what you're wanting.

Charles Huckaba showed me his about 15 years ago. He bored out the shoulder to be able to keep the threads. He cut more than .005 off the bottom as he controlled it with adjusting the height of the die.

I don't have an odd or oversized chamber, no loose primer pockets, just have a commonly found disease that some shooters suffer from...I believe the Latin term for it is: Lackoffundage, emptay walletus.

I am trying to use some older brass that has life left in it, but can't size the base to fit a tight chamber rifle.

I have bags of good used Norma 300 WSM brass, and only .003-.004" from using it...
Soooo close, yet sooo far away!

The body dies don't size down far enough. There is a space just above the extractor groove that doesn't get sized down. This is the area that stops the rounds from being chambered.

Body dies may not, but "Small" body dies DO size the clickie part.

I made a Dasher ring die from a Forster FL die I had laying around. I cut the top off and bored out the shoulder and most of the body. I then started removing material from the bottom of the die till the die sized the amount that I wanted. In order to size all the way to the groove, I cut down a RCBS shell holder to allow the case to pass deep into the die.

As you can see in the picture, I can go down a bit further, but no need since its already past the edge.

I don't know what is hard drilling out the top of a full length die to a diameter a few thousands larger than the shoulder. You can cut whatever from the bottom of the die. You can even counter bore the bottom of the die to allow sizing further down.
Leaving the die threaded allows you better control over your sizing.
