Dies for 6BR-DX 40*IMP

I have been searching around for die availability for the 6BR-DX... that is on the main page. Hoping someone can point me to a set of dies for this cartridge. So far I havnt had any luck in search of a set.

I wonder if Lynwood Harrell would make a DX FL die? I have one of his dies for my 6BR, it works wonderfuly.

Russ, I believe the trend is to buy the Redding S die in 6 Dasher and have a smith/machinist with the right tooling, shorten the die .039"

Rod.. You have no idea bud. Its enough to drive a man insane. I have pretty good amount of 6BR brass so my mind wanders... What if. I bet once I get to the point where Im loading for 20 seperate cartridges maybe Ill slow down?

Tim

I did just read about that in the interview with Doug P the origional designer. With that being said Im guessing no one out there in big Die making land makes this sizing die? That is without going to the extra reamer and newlon die blank route which I just finished doing for the Gamboa 2010 Chamber in 308. Dang that was a pain the Arse.

On a second note sounds like your doing real well this year and hope for many more small groups and gentle winds for you and our fellow memphis shooters.

Contact John Whidden at Whidden GunWorks. He is in the process of creating bushing FL dies and seater dies for the Dasher, BRDX, BRX and some other popular wildcats. Production should be available pretty soon:

Hmmm that is right John and I had this very discussion in a restarant over dinner in Australia when he was still spit balling the Idea.... Sounds like he is moving forward.

Ill Give the good Mr Widden a jingle. Thank you for reminding me about that. I knew some one have a good solution or two.

Mike Bryant made my dies for my BRDX. He made the seater die using a 6BR redding seater die and run my reamer up in to the sleeve and made the FL die buy shorting a dasher die 30 tho or so can't recall the exact number on that. They do work great tho

Ill give Mike a jingle if Mr Widden does not have what i need. Thanks for everyones help so far, this is a great site.

Also If i can PM you about your rifle i would like to aske a couple of questions about your DX if you dont mind?

Russ,
There's an empty chair at my twelve step group. ;)
Hi, my name is Steve and I load for twenty-two cartridges. :P

The reality is all you need to do with your BR-DX Reamer is mimick the body dimensions (diameters) of the Dasher and then you can buy a Dasher re-size die and shorten it (off the bottom) and you are good to go. We carry Reddding Type S FL sizing dies for the Dasher here: http://www.6mmar.com/6mm_Dasher.php

If you are not shooting some bench rest game where you are trying to totally tailor the case capacity to a particular powder, I don't see what the BR-DX gets you over a Dasher for 600 to 1000 yards so why bother.

That would be fine with me. As Robert said on the reamer mine is the same as a Dasher body dimension.

Robert
As said earlier by tclaunch y should one choose a 6SLR over a 6CM or just a 243?

We've got you covered!

We are indeed making these dies as well as a number of other cartridges. We have quite a few FL sizers on the shelf and are close behind on seater dies. The sizers will be available in both bushing style (used Redding type bushings) and no-bushing style. All sizers will have included a tool for your calipers to allow you to set the shoulder setback on your brass. Seaters are a super nice sliding sleeve micrometer type.

We have worked closely with Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool and Gauge (makers of the chamber reamers most gunsmiths are using) and hishelp has been invaluable in choosing the right internal dimensions for these dies. Dave has us ready to go with dies that will size your brass to work smoothly in your chamber for many firings without overworking the brass. One of my frustrations with some brands of dies is that they size too little in the base and eventually require a small base sizer to get the brass sized so that the gun extracts easily again. You won't have that problem with our dies.

The following sizers are in stock and ready to ship at $59.99:
6 BR-DX bushing
6 Dasher bushing
6.5-284 and .284 bushing
6XC bushing
6x47 and 6.5x47 Lapua no bushing
.22 and 6 BRX bushing
6.5 Creedmoor no bushing
.338 Edge no bushing
6 SLR bushing

Seater dies can be completed in about 2 weeks for each of these cartridges. Two die sets are $142.99.

Contact us for custom wildcat cartridges as well. We can work with most anything you can draw up. Custom dies are made during the first week of the month and are typically ready at the end of that month, so turnaround is relatively short.

Robert, you raise some good points. And one must also be aware that the BRDX gives up some capacity to the Dasher. However, the neck is longer, which gives additional flexibility for bullet seating (allowing use of shorter bullets at lesser distances). Also, Sam Hall has found that the brass forms easier since the shoulder doesn't have to move as much.

Thanks for posting that, I wasnt sure if I should say anything letting the cat out of the bag persay.

Robert:

I like something a little difrent is all. No more than that. Kinda why i went with your Super X (SLR) 7 years ago. Maybe Ill chamber up my Ellisio R5 in this Cartridge? Would make awonderful XTC round like the BRX and plain BR. This way when Im shooting next to Nate G we wont get our brass mixed up ; ) Dont want my high quality Norma brass getting mixed up with that lapua stuff... ;D Ha!

Now with John making Dies i think i will move forward on the Project... Looks like a fun one.

This brings me to my next question.

My 6BR reamer has a .104 freebore. I shoot 105VLD's pretty much exclussively in that gun. I find that I should have had a .090 freebore instead but was intisapating maybe the 107gr SMK or the 105 AmaX so I went with the .104 freebore... ( kinda rimes)

Im anticipating using the new Hybrid with this case and VLD's also... So maybe back to the .090 for the BRDX? Thoughts?

Russ T

With approximately .039" shorter neck, I`m thinking to move the FB longer by as much.

If you liked .090" + .039 + .129" FB

That's how I came up with my free bore on my BRDX is just went off of the 6BR case and added the shorter neck. And a call to Kiff help with the final decision.

Oops.... Indeed I forgot to add my sorter neck length. Thanks for the correction.

JKohler

What Freebore did you decide on and what bullets did you try to optimize for?
