Die shaving case, thoughts?

Is it a steel or carbide die ?
I am not aware of a carbide die for 30 Herrett. Are you?

I ran into the same issue of a die scraping brass during sizing when I made a sizing die for a 204x45 cartridge. It was a very hard steel die. Stoning a bevel took care of the issue. I polished with both 600 grit sandpaper and 1000 grit sandpaper from Walmart, found in the auto body section.

I can also fix your die if you need to send it out. Im in Iowa. Send with returnnpostage and I will fix it for free.
You can fix it with a drill and 6-800 grit sand paper. Just break that lead edge and if the die is not scarred on the inside you will be good to go. Its not showing up on the new brass due to being undersized prior to fire form

It is apparent (now that I looked with my spectacles on!) that it has been shortened.

To answer several questions that were asked:

Yes, I have formed 7-30 waters, 357 Herrett using Redding trim dies and FL dies for years.

I grabbed up this used brass just because it was dirt cheap and I wasn't out much if it was too ugly for the eventual barrel I bought.

I have Starline, but it was bought some time later. I intend to form using it, once I am certain this die is usable (fixed).

I priced a new FL die and it is out of my range right right now.

I am sending it to Alan Warner who kindly offered to look it over and see if it is fixable. If not, I will be in the market for another used die (hopefully not buggered!)

Thanks fellas, for all your help. You all nailed it.
I will let you know what happens.

UPDATE
I sent the die to Alan Warner who graciously offered to examine and possibly fix the die, depending on condition. He returned it to me today with it all cleaned up. He beveled the hackneyed ground edge (yes, someone had chopped the die) and he took a tad off to smooth things up. I just tested it and viola'. All is good.

BIG shout out to Alan who took his time out of manufacturing his own dies to help me out. He gained a customer next time I need a special die.

Thanks to everyone who led me to look more closely and offered a hand.
