Did everyone quit making 308 brass?

XTR

F-TR obssessed shooting junkie
I just took the time to read my back order update e-mail from Midway. I discovered that I've still got an in place back order for brass from nearly 6 months ago. I forgot I put that in, and it was weeks before the December madness started. I'm a little surprised that a back order for W-W 308 brass (500) placed weeks before the current chaos started hasn't been filled yet. Not picking on Midway, just thinking that's a really long time not to have any brass on the shelves.

you problem is your preceeption that this started in december.....
more like october.......it just got worse in dec...

XTR,
I've noticed several of the usual reliable and fast service vendors are falling behind because of the increased numbers of orders for brass, bullets and components. Internet orders have obviously spiked and it is apparently difficult for many to keep up with the orders and turn them out like they used to. I think we all got spoiled by the immediate responses we have gotten in the past from outfits like Midway, but even their suppliers can't keep up with the demand. I am however wondering if there are truly that many "hoarders" out there for some of this stuff. Just my thoughts.

Cabelas opened in my town(Louisville, KY) on Thursday. I was the second person to make it to the reloading section when the doors opened. They had 0 win or rem 308 brass. All they had was Lapua which I managed to grab. My gunshop hasn't had any 308 brass in nearly 3 months. No shipments at all.

I wandered same thing. WW brass @ Midway said back ordered available in a couple months I think back early last year. Then that date came around and the estimated in stock date was pushed back until September or so...then all that happened and it was pushed back further. Then again first of year it was pushed back even further as expected

So WW appeared not being made/shipped to vendors all of mid-late last year? Then when all that shooting stuff happened and hoarders came out of the wood work it got even worse

Tom,
You are 100 percent spot on, I apologise and will remove any of my posts on the subject that have any negativity in them. This guy isn't worth my time nor any of the rest of you guy's time either, he is getting exactly the responses that he wants from us, thanks Tom for pointing out the obvious to us.

XTR,
I am seeing a little of it trickle in here and there, sportsman warehouse in both Missoula Montana and in Lewiston Idaho had it in w.w and in Nosler this week, I got my orders in somewhat timely manners from Midway and from powder valley but I am going on 3 months waiting for 6br brass I ordered and that was in stock at the time of order from bruno's, I have been very faithful customer to bruno's and have bought the bulk of my needs from them but I have emailed them twice as they won't answer there phones and not a word back from them, I am going to write Amy or Lester himself today and if no response I am going to be done with them forever, as I understand shortages, I understand miss placing an order or even giving someone else my order and now there is nothing to send me,...what I can't understand nor tolerate is simply ignoring my inquiries about my order!
Wayne.

p.s to my last post I may start a new thread complaining about the lack of respect that Brunos is showing to all of us, I have seen other complaints and have stuck up for Bruno's but they could hire someone for minimum wage to answer peoples questions and it would at least keep most of us somewhat happy.

I'm not in a panic for brass, I've got about 1000 cases that all have 3 to 5 firings on them, but I also know that as hot as we (I) run them in F class they are due to start losing primer pockets in another few reloadings. I got a little paranoid after a let my ammo sit in the truck in the sun last yr while I was pulling targets at the state championships and when I got back for my relay after lunch I blew two primers and pretty much all the ammo I shot that day the pockets are noticeably softer that was on the 2nd reloading on that brass. (I backed my loads off after that) Classic case of a load developed at 55F not being happy when the ammo is 100F+. I hand prime and pockets that feel less tight than the rest get set aside for sighters and practice and usually toss them after that loading.

I just thought it was odd, Midway is pretty good at filling back-orders as they come in, and this one has been out there for a long time. I don't remember the last time Midway had W-W 308. Like I said it was placed weeks before the December shootings when the world went berserk and I have to figure that Midway is a pretty good customer for the manufacturers. I get notifications from them when stuff comes in before any of the other online sellers.

and i will say again....the components world was a mad house long before the december shootings...your reference point should be october..when it was pretty obvious which way the election was going.
gun sales went wacko after the shootings, but ammo and components had been flying out the doors long before that.

The only brass available at MidwayUSA is Lapua Palma Small Primer Pocket and Norma, all other brass states "Out of Stock, No Backorder"

Out of Stock, No Backorder

Product is not available for order, and we cannot offer a backorder option because the manufacturer is unable to provide us with a reliable "Date expected in stock." In most cases, this is due to unusually high demand or a lack of raw materials. As soon as we have reliable information, we will update the status of the product. In the meantime, please use our "Notify Me" feature to receive an email alert as soon as the product arrives.
