Dicks Sporting Goods Remmy 700 $449.00 ????

Dicks Sporting Goods is offering Remington Model 700 Varmint with camo ventilated stocks, X mark pro trigger, Heavy barrel, and a scope for $499 - a $50 rebate = $449.00. Just wondering if there is something that has been cheapened up on the action or is it the same 700 action on their high end guns??

I bought one of those Dick's 700ADL Varmints in .308 last August for $500. After the $50 rebate and selling the crappy Chinese scope it came with for $50, I had a $400 hvy barreled .308. I was going to rebarrel it 6.5x47 Lapua or .260 Rem, but the .308 shoots so well I have kept it.

I put a nice Leupold scope on it, put it in a B&C Medalist stock, and added a Jewell trigger. I feed it Varget and 168 SMK's and it is very accurate. I always shoot it off a Harris bipod and it consistently puts three shots into little cloverleafs at 100. A couple weeks ago it put 5 shots under 1.25" at 300. The rifle has been a fun project and shoots better than a lot of much more expensive rifles I have seen.

I still have a Shilen .264 1:8 barrel waiting to go on the action, but I guess I'll wait 'til the .308 wears out...

That's it. If you get a trigger, a stock, and a skim bed.... most of the factory Rem 700s will shoot pretty good.

We've gone through 5 new Rem 700s in the last 12 months, and none of them have been dogs. I have a box full of Xmark Pro triggers... never been fired. :o

This thread should be called, Dick's Sporting Goods Donor Action sale! I have been thinking about grabbing one to toss in the corner for a rainy day.

I've also noticed that if you're willing to wait, usually once a year, that Dicks have a better sale for $399 after the $50 rebate. The $449 is their normal sale on this rifle. I bought one last year in 22-250 and it's a great shooter in stock configuration.
