700 Stock

Guess this may be a "simple" question but I don't have the information. I recently stocked a 700 in 243 with a standard sporter weight Remington stock, the all familiar black synthetic with grey trim overlays. After seeing how well this stock fits me (and I like the recoil pad as well) I'm wondering if there is an equivalent stock made for a 700 with a varmint weight (88 model Varmint Special) barrel? Have a 25/06 with a beautiful BDL wood stock but it just doesn't fit well, bit too big all over so to speak. All I've see after checking out sites like GB is Hogue stocks. I'm not sure but I doubt that's the same as the OEM Remington stock. Could someone tell me just what stock I need to be looking for?

I'd look/advertise for a Factory Take-Off and then hog out the barrel channel yourself.
It's simple to do on most stocks.

Thanks Killshot. I have exactly "0" experience with synthetic stocks, wasn't aware that opening up the channel on one was possible.

One of my Remington 700 varmint rifles had the same stock so I imagine if you like that kind of stock it's probably available from Remington with the varmint channel.

I didn't like the stock at all, the flat front end didn't fit well in my shooting sticks. I replaced it with a Hogue Pillar bedded stock ($100 from Midway). The Hogue is as ugly as the Wicked Witch of the North but my groups tighten almost 50% plus it fits my sticks perfectly.

It sounds like you may be looking for the HS Precision stock that was original equipment on various Rem 700 heavy barrels like their Varmint Synthetic, and their Varmint Synthetic Stainless Fluted, etc. You can get these in LA or SA. Put a WTB ad out there, and you'll probably score. It has an aluminum bedding block (skeleton thing) built into it.

I think he is looking for a sps long action with varmint barrel channel (tupperware). They really arent a real rigid stock, but they fit me real well too.

Thanks all that took time to reply! I have plenty of options to look for now and will do so.
I was aware the OEM I'm using on my 243 is a bit of a whimpy stock as it goes but so far the upward pressure seems to work well on the sporter weight barrel. May get around to trying other things with it but the groups I get so far I'm pretty pleased.
