Dick Wright

Dick passed away yesterday, April 16, 2019 in his beloved Harrison, Michigan. Dick was best known among the benchrest competition crowd but he also had a warm spot in his heart for the varmint crowd and all shooters in general. He marketed his Whitetail Primer Pocket Uniformer, which by all accounts was the best on the line. It has carbide cutters which gave Dick his moniker of Carbide Dick. Dick will be missed by those who knew him. Glorya, The Child Bride, preceded him last year. They’ll be setting up a benchrest match in heaven.

Great loss for us all....good shooter, good writer and most of all good company. .
We are all diminished...

Riflewoman, Dick had a Cruiser weight unlimited benchrest rifle that, as you say, was ugly. So much so that Dick named it Fugly.
Here is a picture of two legends at a match at Harrison, Michigan. Dick Grosbier, on the right, had contacted me as he was in Michigan and wanted to get together. I told him there was a match the next day and to shorten the story, I brought enough equipment for two of us to shoot along with Paul and his son. Dick Grosbier said he had never shot an unregistered match before but he did that day. Dick Grosbier was a native Michiganian. At any rate, I thought you might enjoy this picture of two who are no longer with us.

A good friend from way back. We shared a love for BR, custom wood stock rifles, and cars. I will miss exchanging emails with him.
RIP, my friend.

I still read his stuff in old PS. It is like he isn't gone. Never met him, but felt like I knew him. Always wanted Fugly for my own because it just had that "off-kilter cool" vibe.

Praying for his family and friends.

Diminished...

Dick and Glorya (aka "the Child Bride") were two of the finest people I ever knew. We met back in 1988 thru Precision Shooting Magazine. I met he and Glorya a couple years later when Russ Hayden and I went to the Super Shoot. We were setting up Russ' table, and he walks up and says "You must be Rich Kayser...". We used to chat on the phone occasionally.

God Speed Dick, reunited at last with Glorya.

We are diminished...

I used to really enjoy his stories about the "Jackpine Savages", that and his deer camp "Cabin" was a place to envy. He will be missed.

Brings reality to home, the days are getting shorter. I think I'll dig out some precision shooting magazines and look at the pictures. RIP Dick.

Skip Otto tagged Dick with the nome de plume "Lord of the Jackpine Savages" at the SS one year. Dick had made the mistake of mentioning the residents by that term. Jackpines are a scrubby species of the Pine genus.
For those of you not famiilar with that part of the country, there are actually two separate states of Michigan, the northern part has been called the "UP" (say You-Pee), for hundreds of years. That is the Upper Peninsula. Many of the residents eat fresh deer on a regular basis. The lower residents consider them a bit, shall we say: a bit closer to early homo sapiens, around the Neanderthal branch of the tree.It was a rare treat to sit at a table in Kelbly's and listen to them. Dave Brennan often refereed.

The story of him and Bart Sauter in Precision Magazine going down south to a match was hilarious.

I miss Dick Wright
I miss Precision Magazine

Should be "Precision Shooting Magazine". Old age draws a large vacuum.

I used to read Dick's articles in each issue of PS before the others. His articles were always informative. Talked to him on the phone once and he was very interesting. RIP my friend.

A great man who would happily share his knowledge both in print and in person.
Godspeed sir. May the good Lord welcome you with open arms.
