Dick Wright Memorial Match

We are dedicating the 100 yard score match at Harrison Saturday, June 8 to the memory of Dick Wright. Harrison has been hit hard with the passing of Dick Wright, yes but, Harrison also lost Glorya Wright and Don Murder. And so Saturday we will also honor their memory as well and equally.
The match starts at 10:00AM with the gates being open at 8:00AM. Well have an extra donut there for Dick as we all know how he loved his sweets, including Glorya, the Child Bride.

We are always looking for shooters at the Harrison Sportsman’s Club bench rest matches. This match is no exception. As those north of Michigan Hwy. 20 are not computer conversant, would you all contact a warm body and take a Jackpine Savage to a match at Harrison?

I wonder if these Jackpine Savages will bring their “muzzleloaders”? Dick wrote an article for Precision Shooting where he recounted that, in his neck of The Woods, the muzzleloader deer season seemed to have more Highpower rifle gunfire than muzzleloaders.

It’s not nice to speak poorly of the departed so I’ll just say Dick Wright was the King Of The Jackpine Savages. I don’t believe he ever used high power in muzzle loader or black powder season but he did sup often on venison. I also believe Glorya, the child bride, harvested more deer than Dickie. He set her up in his favorite blind on the heaviest travelled deer runs. In his own words she had a better chance of hitting one than he did. He claimed he slept more than most hunters. I have a lot of Dick Wright stories but I think I’ll save them for between relays Saturday. Come on up from Corydon Saturday. I spent a night in Corydon in Harrison Township, Harrison County, Indiana once. It’s a lovely town, full of history.

I sure wish you could make a vacation of it and come on up north. Back when I was working, I worked with Billy Joe Napier from Kentucky. Most of the guys were talking about going north for the weekend so I asked Billy Joe if he was going up north for the weekend. His answer was, (add the Kentucky drawl here) “Boy, I am up north”.

Well, the Durango is packed and I’m ready to head up to Harrison. Now comes the nerve wracking time trying to think, “What did I forget?” Yes, I’ve packed my pre-shot 25X targets.
