Pretty good reference for sure, but it should be mentioned also that you should have your head in the position on the stock that you like.I found this little tip for determining scope ring height using stacks of pennies
And a chart at the bottom reveals the ring height you want according to the amount of pennies used
Thought it was pretty cool
May help some of you before accidentally buying rings that are too short.

Although I think this is more to ensure your scope clears the barrel also with enough room to put your scope caps on.
often times after doing that - the scope is higher than your head would be when you have a cheekweld on the stock.
Most of my guns the required rings are always high enough I have to raise my head off the stock to look through the scope unless it had an adjustable cheek riser.
