Derek Rogers rear bag

Anybody happen to have any details about the rear bag in all the pics covering Derek's F/TR FCNC win? It looks like an extra low Edgewood minigator, which I've always thought would be a great way to fly, but havn't ever seen one in use. I'm about to order a new bag, and specs would be great.

much appreciated. I to prefer a very low position. Sounds like a call to Edgewood is in order.

Re: Derek Rodgers rear bag

Hi Wolfman,
I have a low bag from Edgewood. In fact, Edgewood bags is local to New Mexico and easier for me to get what I want, because I can actually talk to them in person. However, I know the low bags are a real pain to make. If they are not currently making any, they may not want too. They do not like to make them as the leather and material used is very hard to turn. I also have a Froggie bag from Edgewood. It is very low and slightly tapered with a concave bottom that sits tight to the mat. Mine was a prototype and I'm not sure they continued with the design, but it would likely be a good fit if your toe is slightly angled like a McMillan Prone or Masterclass High Power Prone stock (for example).

CAUTION: My back and neck severely tightens up on me and I need to keep my back from twisting for long periods in order to stay loose. I find the lower bag helps me there. But others that might try to get behind my rifle would surely feel a serious kink in their neck for a long string or for Team matches. So you may solve one problem and create others by going too low. One other thing, shorter bags are lower in sand volume and can tend to shift around. So keep that in mind if you have a technique that is such that may induce the bag twisting or moving side to side. And probably the last word of caution before you spend $100, you will still need a standard bag with you when you travel as some firing lines have a slope that is angled without the shooter in favor. In other words you will eventually get assigned to a target where you will need the rear height to get on target. Today's F-Class style bipod's adjust very low, but you may find shooting at the lowest level with a Sinclair Gen3 or Duplin bipod etc is just not a normal feeling. So I prefer to stay away from a "near flat" bipod setting. Thus, where a STD bag comes into play.

Other than than, I hope that bit of info helps.... :D

Thanks Derek,

The exlpatiation is very helpful. I have a very low position, and am currently using 3" high Protector bag, but it's soft and doesn't track for beans. I've spoken with Edgewood, and they are happy to make the short or extra short version.
