Back when I first started annealing I did it up to the point where my necks would just show a hint of color... Now I anneal watching just for medal impurities burning out the case.. It's an orange flare, I believe magnesium or zinc... Zinc I think???Webster said:Why would you think annealing after sizing gives more uniform neck tension? If your cases are only falling about a foot onto a hard surface and denting, the necks must be very soft. Are the necks starting to glow orange/red in a dark room when annealing? I have been criticized for mentioning my plier test on case necks. It’s not a hardness determination but used to determine if you have way over annealed the case neck. Crush the neck of a case that’s never been annealed and an annealed one. Compare the difference. If you can easily close the case mouth of an annealed case its way over done. Very little neck tension regardless of the bushing size you use. If the heat from annealing distorts the neck area I think sizing after annealing would correct this.
