Deformed primers when seating SPP

No.

Are there also any sign of dents on the OD? I ask because it almost looks like that part was damaged by a three-jaw chuck after that end was faced off.

ETA: if you write that up and show it to RCBS, I have a hunch they will replace your bad part for the trouble.
If you have the resources and dexterity, it is trivial to correct the part you have.
I think that they actually sent me this one for free after I tried to order one when losing the other. I later found it and now have two. About the only way I could correct it would be with a drill press and a whet stone.

It should be a challenge, and I'm guessing you can conquer it.
Check the other one and see if it is also dented.
If that isn't your thing, maybe you have a friend with the resources that will help?
ETA: I see you are on the far side from me, or I would say mail it to me and I'll fix it.
I have a feeling you won't need to send it 2300 miles away....

No the other one is flat and after I swapped it out things look much better. My white plastic blocks that hold the tray are chewed up so I've got to get a set of those as well. Think that's my 3rd set of those.

FYI; I get the same marks (half-moon marks along with sore hands) using old Ginex SRP's in Lapua brass.

From what I understand, the Ginex primers were manufactured to a slightly larger European (or eastern European) standard, making them harder to seat. Someone told me they had corrected this in later US imports, but I haven't verified this myself.

I tried reaming a batch of 9mm to get rid of this issue, but the S&B brass still gives me some fits with their odd shaped pockets.

I was loading some 9mm the other day and noticed most of my primers were deformed when seating. Got a half moon shape, flattened, and dents on a lot of them. I was using an RCBS universal seater. So, I tried seating in the rockchucker and better but still some. Tried a K&M and a Lee seater and still though not as bad. My little plastic piece inside the RCBS that hold the tray (white small, black large I think) does look rough where the seating stem comes through. I tried a small rifle primer and much better but still a small amount I could see. Before someone flies apart I decapped it so I wouldn't accidentally shoot it. Cci seems better than the Federals I was loading. Soft primer coupled with a tight pocket? Just too much hand pressure? I may test some more after I get home from work. I tried reaming with a chamfer tool and it didn't help. The nickel was worse than brass but it was still there on the brass too. I've seen this before and they all went bang, it just concerning.

The brass on the original ammunition had crimped primers and I don’t think you removed the crimped brass. That ring around the primer pocket is the crimping. I’ve reloaded many 5.56 brass with this crimping method and it has to be cut out.
