Definition needed

Reading the news, watching the 'news' I find that I need a definition for the word 'assault' as in assault weapons banning. Can someone actually define the word and it's proper usage for me? I spent a lousy 7 years in the Army. Was a DI for awhile and worked the "Ranges" and no one I know can answer this one for me. Thank you.

Well……let’s break the word down.

Ass……..we all know what this means and to each of us it probably has a different perspective. It can apply to the backside of a human, your trusty donkey named Joe or a variety of other “useful” descriptions for humans that are less than impressive in each of our eyes, like the news media and most politicians.

Ault, is German I believe and means “surname” or ones last name.

So I guess then, when applied to a rifle an “ass-ault” rifle is simply a rifle with family lineage from these people we feel are “asses” that made up the word.

That’s my take.

Long Definition:
In Snowflake mindset the term "assault" is similar to offense or offensive.

To that end, a firearm such as a shotgun that may have one to several rounds would typically fall under the idea of Defensive as in to protect oneself or viewed as a weapon that cannot discharge a high amount of damage or firepower.

And yes I am aware of what type of damage a shotgun or even a single shot weapon can do in the hands of a competent shooter. But I am not a snowflake.

Remember that the masses who trust and are educated by the system likely believe the current White House position that the weapons they sent to Ukraine are "Defensive." So obviously machine guns, grenade launchers, etc. can in fact be defensive rather than offensive/assault weapons dependent upon the perception and scale of how they are being utilized.

Short definition:
The term "assault" is applicable to whatever the powers that be say it does.

I can't believe people don't understand this yet...;)

When they were talking about banning guns when Bill was president, they wanted to ban marlin 60s and 10-22s cause they said they were so easy to convert to full auto. you could buy a book at the gunshow that explained it all. They said we will jus change the definition of marlin 60 and ruger 10-22 to machineguns and that is all we need to do. Any thing to get their way.

I suggest you read the 1994 law that banned "assault" weapons. The media and congress' misuse of the term assault weapons is strictly political to manipulate the public at large. If they reinstitute the ban, most likely it will include a grandfather clause like the previous ban so it will not affect any firearms that you currently own.

I think the guy who defined "gun violence" would best be able to answer your question regarding "assault weapons".

I think some where, some time, a term in military jargon may have been “assault rifle.”

Now, because there are various state laws dealing with “assault,” “felonious assault,” “aggravated assault,” and of course “assault with a deadly weapon” the gun banners have latched on to the term”assault weapon” as a word play to make the average citizen afraid. They (gun banners) think the citizen is going to think, oh, it's a weapon designed to use in assaults, as in crime, as in why in the world would we allow people to own weapons intended specifically to commit crimes, felonies, with? I am in danger, I am afraid. I could be assaulted!

They did get “assault weapon” defined in legal terms during the so-called assault weapon ban, and it stuck. To this day. It simply defined a gun with certain characteristics that effect how it looks only, the “scariness” of it.

So, in today's terms, it means a gun the banners want to ban.

Assault weapon:

as·sault
verb
make a physical attack on.

weapon
noun
a thing designed or used for inflicting bodily harm or physical damage.

Essentially it's anything someone is attacking me with.

.
Which means the pervs can arbitrarily ban anything, up to AND including the rock Cain used to snuff Abel.
Job security don’t you know, and that is the ONLY security they are really concerned with!
However, you can bet they will never ban their “assault-mouth” or their covert/overt “assault” on your Constitutional Rights.
