Defiance XM....

Hoping to get started with a build soon for my father’s 75th...will be plinking steel with me and my boys on the farm, working our way to 1000 yds...thinking a 6CM or Dasher, perhaps...one day this gun will most likely come back to one of my boys and the XM would allow for a 6.5 PRC (my youngest is strictly a killer...no steel!)... how will a 6mm cartridge run in an XM? Thanks

The extra length of the XM, in between the short and long action lengths would not be a problem for 6mm Creedmoor and would only need to use the appropriate magazine set up for Dasher. The problem will be the larger bolt face the PRC cartridge uses. You could have the bolt face opened up when you decide to convert to a magnum case, or order a different bolt. If you use a standard box magazine cut in the action, you will also have the difference between the feed rails for the two cartridge families to resolve. Although I have done similar conversions with Remington actions I really prefer to match the action to the cartridge and not have to butcher it.
