Defiance vs. Bat????

Can anyone that has a defiance action compare it to a bat action in regaurds to smoothness? How do you like your defiance action? Does it shoot well? Whats your overall opinon of them. Anybody have any pics of your rifle with a defiance action. I've only been around bat and a few others and I'm thinking about one of these. Its not a price thing I like to give my money to the small guy if he producing a good product that compares to the big guys. Glen Harrison has all the credentials I'm just looking for some good comparisons. Thanks guys.

The reason a Defiance looks like a Remington is because it is a Remington footprint action. But mine is definately better than any Remington I ever picked up. One piece bolt/handle combination so you won't have to worry about the handle ever coming off. It's only offered in two lug though so you can't get a three lug action like the Bat. Smoothness compares favorably, but they're not really aimed at the same market. Well same market, but Bat is more diversified and offers the heavier custom actions while Defiance is aimed at the Remington replacement market.

The action they sent me was a long action repeater and I just happened to have a bone stock Rem long action repeater. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the Defieance and a stock Rem. Just my short observation.

Chris,

First, this isn’t intended to get everyone all flamed up so please don’t take it as such.

I've built numerous rifles on Remington 700's, BATs, Stiller’s, Defiance Machine, Stolle and others. While I like the 700, it does have its share of flaws and is in need of a little TLC before it can truly reach its full potential.

#1. The bolt raceway never has the same ID front to rear. I've seen differences of as much as .005". .699" front and .704" rear. Granted this is the largest ES I've seen but it did exist. Most ID's are within the neighborhood of .001" to .002" of each other.

#2. The locking abutments are never perpendicular to the bolt raceway or parallel to one another.

#3. The receiver face is saw cut and most of the faces are over .0015"+ away from being perpendicular from the bolt raceway.....enough said.

#4. I've yet to see receiver threads that were concentric. Most have taper in them and are also off set. Raceway broaching marks have also present 100% of the time.

The Remington 700 Receivers and the receivers manufactured by Defiance Machine are round. Using that as the comparison you're right, they do look alike. Other than that, ones from Mars the other from Venus

Just for comparison and for the OP and yes, I am a sponsor here.
