Defiance Deviant Action

I have been advised by a friend to get this action for a F/TR build. I want to stay with a Remington footprint because I already have a stock. How is the bolt lift on these? I am tired of my heavy, heavy Savage bolt lift, it puts me one target over every time I pull a case out. Would you recommend something else?

I cant help with that action, but I would advise you to look at the big horn armory action. If I was in the market for a rem footprint thats what I'd look at. One of the smoothest bolts I have felt. At the end of the day, all the custom actions are so good you can really just close your eyes and pick one.

I've got three Deviants. They are good Remington clones with integral lug and rail. If easy bolt lift is your priority, I'd focus on some of the BAT actions. The Deviant has pretty "standard" bolt lift which is highly dependent on the firing spring strength.

Timing and trueing your action would greatly help the bolt lift.

Kelbly Atlas is also a very good Remington clone action.

Another one that just hit the market is the Farley F-Class action. It's worth looking at.

Erik, Can you link me to any info about the farley f-class action. I have heard how sweet his actions are but have never seen much info other than that on the website. I live in OKC and would love to go check one out at his place.

I haven't seem any info online, but they had the actions on display at the World Championahip. Best thing to do is call Farley.

Plus one on that - I'm very pleased with mine in an F/TR build.

The Savage PTA is highly variable - I have three out of the box versions in F/TR rifles and they range from 'sweet' to 'hard work'. Getting them 'timed' makes a huge difference I'm told. There is a minor modification involving a cut-down .38 Special case and a ball bearing that transforms the effort required to open the bolt too allegedly. Search for it on The Savage Shooters Forum.

While the Kelbly Atlas is a good piece of advice and a good action, trueing and tuning what you have is another good piece of advice. Your brass may be too large at the base for one thing and if it's old brass, I'd bet your bottom dollar on that. I still see a lot of Remington's shooting lights out with no heavy bolt lift.
