Defiance Anti & Ruckus pre-fits cross compatible?

Would it work to take a barrel that has been fit to a Defiance Anti XM action and thread it onto a Ruckus XM?

I know Defiance makes them all to very tight tolerances, but are the dimensions of the two actions the same?

Thanks for any insight.

I have a Tenacity XM and a Ruckus SA. The action length is obviously different between the two, but the tenon print is the same for both. In my experience with swapping the barrels around, I have found about .002-3” difference in headspace between them. I have heard from more than a few gunsmiths that almost all similar action manufacturers will have similar tolerance he between actions, despite their claims of +/- .001.

You can try swapping them over if you have both actions already (I assume you are asking because you are contemplating purchasing the 2nd action...) and using the cellophane tape trick on the back of the case to see which is longer headspace, and by how much.

From their lineup the Ruckus, Anti/x, tenacity Should all be compatible with the same prefit barrels. These actions all feature the same style two piece bolt handle and are made on the same machine in one operation. The deviants are a one piece bolt that they don’t guarantee headspace on. But usually end up about the same as the others.

Saying +/- .001" means it can be .001" above or below their desired measurement, which creates a .002" window. Am I missing something here?

The title of the post says 'pre fits' - if the barrel uses a barrel nut then the barrel can be used on a different action. Of course, the barrel needs to be 'headspaced' on the action - just like it should have/was on the first action.

ETA. To Dusty's point, you would need to ensure there is clearance between the bolt lugs and the counterbore in the barrel.

Yep.002 spread which really isn’t that big of deal unless you’re at the edge of limits already.

If it is a barrel nut setup, this is all a non-issue, just headspace the barrel.

For a shouldered prefit, the sizing of .002-003” could cause some headache if constantly moving between actions could be troublesome. In most cases this would result in shortened brass life and maybe some heavier bolt lift. The sharper the shoulder angle, the more detrimental this would be to brass life.

To me, the benefit of shouldered prefits and guaranteed headspace is knowing that with virgin brass / factory ammo there is a very low chance of issue, without having to send your action off to a gunsmith. The headspace should still be checked with a gauge, or case/tape for safety. But ideally this brass, action, and barrel should stay together for best results. If not, good notes during reloading and which rifle is being loaded for could make this all a non-issue as well.

This is for a shouldered barrel. It seems likely that this will likely work out. I'll have a smith check the headspace prior to shooting if I choose to install the barrel on the Ruckus.

Thanks for your input.
