Deer with 6,5 Grendel

Perhaps of interest.
The Grendel works surprisingly well on deer.
A 6,5mm cartridge with heritage to 6 PPC if I understand correctly. Very accurate!

In the UK, it's a ballistically marginal cartridge for the legal velocity / ME floors - even for the little roe deer - when used in 16-inch barrel sound-moderated rifles. In Scotland, the roe requirement is 1,000 ft/lb ME, easy enough, but also a minimum MV of 2,450 fps which the cartridge can only just do with clever handloading with 123s. In England and Wales there is no MV requirement, but the cartridge must have a basically unobtainable 1,700 ft/lb ME for any species other than the tiny Muntjac and Chinese Water Deer. (.22 centrefires are allowed on them.) 6.5X47 Lapua meets all these legal requirements much more easily, is superbly accurate, and in many cases doubles (or triples) up for match and varmint use with one rifle on top. We can't have semi-auto centrefire rifles here, so the big Grendel advantage of fitting an AR-15 or similar upper doesn't apply.

I have reached much the same conclusions Laurie. Needed a 20" to be legal for me, and unless you have physical restrictions in your action (like 59mm magazine length for me), I cannot see any advantage over the 6,5x47 or 6,5 Creedmoor.

I shot a good sized (body) 8 pt buck with 6.5 Grendel and 123 hornady amax at about 150-170 yards. Its what I had with me at the time as the rifle is on an ar platform, I didn't want to take my nice hunting rifle with that day as it was going to spend the day laying on the floor of a piece of farm equipment while I was operating. Yes the Grendel works, and I'd use it again if its what I had, but I'd rather use a something with more power.

Sorry about the dog. It sure enjoyed the hunts with you. Guess you gave it a good life.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Turned everything above the diaphragm to chunks in the 140 lb doe I shot at 120 yards. 18" barrel, Hornady AMax 123 gn, no less. Not Ideal for hunting according to "the books".

did someone mention accuracy? AR 15?:
