Deer food plot

This is just a part of what I’ve picked up so far..
haha. when i joined a hunt club with established work days i asked one of the long timers just how long the rocks keep coming up. he said 'we don't know. no one has lived long enough to find out'.

you are familiar with the fable of 'the little red hen' i take it. very apropos.

Im glad you can plant---no moisture here at all. Woods are burning. might rent a skid steer with a rock bucket??

I heard it was terrible in OK. I am sorry. We are in a bad drought also. Surprisingly the ground plowed up nicely and only if we mind rain. A

The moral of the story of the Little Red Hen teaches children the importance of hard work and the consequences of laziness. The Little Red Hen worked tirelessly to bake the bread, always asking if any of the other animals would help her. Then, as soon as the bread is finished, the other animals want to eat it.

I had to look it up been so long. Ha. Some many guys think that they can’t just show up on their schedule. Don’t. Work that way. No need to go into details. I do feel pretty good about the new plot. The R.O.W. was a bunch of dirt hauled in with a “s” house of rocks. Soil was about worst we have in upstate SC. But some fertilizer and lime and cover crops she’s taking shap and should yield nicely with oats planted. I did discover we have an in authorized dweller. Me fat but GH gonna get thumped soon. thanks. I could disc but afraid wind would blow it away. ground too hard to penetrate with no-till drill.
If i can plant by nov 15, i will still make it---all that depends upon a rain or two.
I have chosen to keep my cattle (which means feeding up any profit...maybe next years also???).
lotta people all over the US are dealing with this...I never thought I would see it here. we get almost 5ft of rain a year on avg. my vet. is already seeing dust pneumonia in cattle. get ready for record high beef in future.
I am probably gonna lose a qtr section of young hybrid loblollys, have lost lots of oaks and older pine.
the cypress in the sloughs have lost all of their leaves---I can see why people left to go to CA.
no sense in crying, it wont change anything.

Totally agree on the no work, no hunt principle. I got tired of hunting on other property with no help so I purchased my own land. People that don't have land nor work the land have no concept of the money and resources that goes into making something enjoyable. They just see it as a free place to hunt. You can bet your sweet toodles I have some jobs lined up for those guys when they get to the farm before we go out and hunt. There's always wood that needs to be cut, split and stocked to stay warm. A couple cords stacked and we're ready to hunt.

Man that is tuff. Hate it for you and all. Maybe it’s just a once in a life thing and you’ll be back on track in a few short years.

thanks, yes thats what im hoping for---usually we have flood problems...crazy, i dont remember any problems when i was a kid growing up???? lol

My foodplot 'problem' is the neighbors setting up their deerstands across the fence from it. This is a 5-acre open plot built as a wildlife sanctuary. I don't shoot deer anymore; just coyotes. Unfortunately(possibly for neighbors), they are right in my shooting lane where most of the coyotes appear. Told them: I don't know if or when you're in your stand, but if I see a coyote I'm going to take the shot.

Finally got some rain and seeds came up. Deer are tearing up the food plots. We went 10 weeks without rain. Deer were eating dead grass to stay alive. DDD1EF1C-C12D-483A-AA32-DB09DF1910C3.jpeg

Planting food plots to bait wild animals should be illegal. You are not hunters. you are game farm killers.
Be a real hunter. And be a proud hunter.
So by that logic you believe that hunting should be banned on all agriculture land. Food plots are not bait piles or perhaps you are confusing food plots to feeders in residential areas or are seeing and believing too many peta commercials.

Never even mention agriculture land. The post here was about food plots. So I see you must be a bait hunter. I have hunted from Alaska to Florida and never hunted over bait. Go put out bait in Alaska and see where it get you. Jail time as it should. One example, A guy in my area just killed a record book deer this season. When I talked to him, Oh I've been feeding him memorial blocks for four years. He is NOT a hunter, he is a cheat. Be a HUNTER.

Where can a fella get a "memorial" block?
Right beside most CHEATERS AND FOOD PLOTS. Mineral are found at most hardware stores and feed store. Are you a cheater also.

I searched my seed catalogs with no luck, so I googled "memorial blocks" and I gotta say them must be damn tough and hungry deer in your area that have to resort to eating granite tombstones. Must be some kind of mineral in them that draws them to it. The fellow might be better off planting a food plot instead- easier on their teeth so they might live a bit longer.
Like markT I also follow all the game laws in my state.

If you hunt legally with in the scope of the regulations you are an ethical hunter. Just because some one chooses to plant a food plot that is their decision. If they want to put out memorial blocks and it is not illegal more power to them. In fighting is a very bad thing.
