dedicated Barnard S rings?

Are there any options for dedicated rings for the Barnard S/SM/SMS actions? I've heard that some for Anschutz actions might also work for the Barnard S action.

Or is my only route to buy the Barnard rail and then any rings for a pic rail?

I purchased the Barnard scope rail and iron sight mount. In retrospect, I should have called Al Warner to see if he made one of his scope/iron sight rails for the "S" action.

I don't thing there is anything wrong with the factory mounts, I just like the fit, finish, and precision of Al's stuff.

I'll use a scope temporarily until I can build a load for that barrel/cartridge, then I switch over to irons.
Was hoping I could find some Talley rings or something similar for the Barnard. I'll probably just end up going with the rail.

What does Widden say?
Emailed Whidden and his response was that the rail and standard pic rings were probably the way to go and that he doesn't know of any dedicated rings for the Barnard actions. Just was getting a second opinion here before I went and ordered a rail.

I'm almost certain that anything designed to fit a modern Savage action will fit the Barnard S. I say almost because I sold mine six or seven years ago but I'm sure I was using a set of Nightforce bases designed for a Savage action. These were two piece picatinny style, the hole spacing was correct and the diameter also, ie the action diameter. The S was designed to use Remington style stocks/triggers etc so it's not surprising they wouldn't use the same diameter action & hole spacing, just avoided the deeper cut out for the rear base, as have most all other Remington clone actions and coincidentally the Savage actions also. I have two other Remington clones and they also are fitted with the Savage bases. When it comes to a rail I'm not sure if the two sets of hole centres would work for a pre-drilled rail other than one designed for the S. Having said all that I'm not sure if anyone makes a combo base/ring set for the Savage which it sounds like you are after.

YES! This was the answer. I ordered a set of light weight Talley mounts for Savage round action and the fit is perfect on the SMS action. The mounts came with 8-40 screws, so I just had to supply my own M4 screws.

Glad to be of help, I forget to mention the screws may be metric, so good that you were able to source them OK.
