I'm not sure why you're sticking with those 3 if you already have a 6.5 creedmoor. The three are basically twins. You're splitting the finest of hairs in performance. Why not move to something genuinely different from your creedmoor like a 6.5 gap 4s, or 6.5 PRC (if you're staying 6.5) or size down to a 6 or 22 cartridge? I think that you're going to be underwhelmed by the change from a 6.5 creedmoor to a 6.5x47, especially for the money.

I agree. If the OP's existing rifle is suitable for mid/long range target shooting, then why build a nearly identical rifle to do the same thing? Any of the calibers discussed in this thread would be suitable for either tgt shooting or hunting, the difference is in the firearm.

If it were me, assuming I wanted to go hunting and target shooting, I would most likely stick with one caliber for both and build two very different rifles; one for hunting (light, small barrel, medium power scope) and another for target shooting (heavy, fat barrel, more powerful scope).

On the other hand, if I wasn't going hunting, I'd set up the 6.5 for F-Open and build a .223/.308 for F-TR. Or, perhaps set up the 6.5 for 1000yd target shooting and build a 6mm BR Norma (or one of the similar, more sexy variants) for 600 yard shooting. But that's just me.

Food for thought. Thanks!

I actually have rifles that cover those bases. PRS/NRL style matches are more interesting to me and more accessible given proximity of events, traveling time, training, etc....
Also good food for thought!

If all you want is a competition gun.... 6br, 6brx, 6bra, 6dasher, 6x47,6.5x47, 6cm, 6.5cm, few others to mention but these are notorious tack drivers capable of shooting great bullets at the speeds you will need.
These all fit with ease in a short action. and are extremely recoil friendly, especially with a brake.

I did a 5-part review of the 6.5s in the e-zine Target Shooter:

It likely won't help you as has been said many times before and since, there is nothing much in performance terms between the 6.5X47L, Creedmoor, 260 Rem, and 6.5X55mm and all are capable of outstanding precision in the right rifle. It always comes back to personal preferences, availability of factory rifles (if the smokepole is so restricted), brass, and price. 6.5X47L may have a slight edge in out and out precision, but has only one manufacturer of its cases and almost no factory rifles on offer.

The 260's restrictions caused by deeply seated bullets in magazine rifles are often overstated by critics and despite being the least 'sexy' of the modern smaller trio, it can perform as well as the others and often shoots outstandingly well despite its 'old-fashioned' longer more tapered case and 20-degree shoulders. (I'm just starting a load development programme for a long-throat 260 to be written up next year sometime.)
Actually Cooper Mountain Rifles offers 6.5x47 in several different styles. And Who ever said Laurie is Right miss stated it, He is a wealth of knowledge I would say a Doctorate of Ballistics.

Thank you for that information Bob. Off the shelf rifles really ARE rare though in 6.5X47L. I was surprised to find that even semi-custom riflemakers like the UK's RPA don't list it as a chambering.
