Decisions, Decisions Which one would you choose

Looking at having a HP gun built for Silhouette. What's the opinions on the following calibers: 260, 6.5x47, 6.5x55 and whinch one wuold you choose and why.

Thanks in advance.

I'd like a short action and I guess that only leaves the 6.5x47, but I'm open to a long action as well.

Make sure that you choose a caliber that throws a heavy enough bullet to knock down the rams. Some competitors say that the 140's in the usual 6.5's won't reliably do it, but the 160's,and up) in the 7mm cartridges will.

I'm being told that with the 6.5x47 a friend is shooting and 123's he is knocking the Rams over with out a problem.

The 6.5x55 is good, but a powder burner and you have to use the long action I was told. I was thinking I'd like to go with a short action and I know lots of folks with a 260 and no problems. But, when your going to go from scratch for your own rifle you, at least myself, try to research it and think it through. Especially with the cost of getting a custom rifle.

Bob,

A friend of my in Austin, who has been shooting Silhouette for 25 years is currently using the 6.5x47 Lapua for the following reasons:

Virtually identical ballistic with less powder and better barrel life than the .260. Kindda important when you shoot thousands of rounds in competition.

Shorter case allow you to seat VLD's further out and still feed in a magazine. Plus th 6.5x47 has a longer neck so you can seat the bullet out of the donut.

Lastly your looking at Lapua brass vs Rem. brass....... Think Ferrari vs. 1982 AMC pacer !
