Deadzero Resumes LR Matches - May 23-24

All,

We are resuming our monthly Long Range matches starting this month. Next weekend, May 23-24, we will hold a 3 x 1,000 both days. $30/day or $50 for both days. Sign in at the Pro Shop begins at 9:00am CENTRAL time. Matches will begin at 10:00am. Prone and F'ers are welcome. Anyone wanting to get into sling shooting or F class is welcome to join us. Our monthly matches are pretty low key and we enjoy helping get new shooters started. The weather forecast shows low 80s and partly cloudy for next weekend. Plus, we shoot under cover so it will be fantastic weather. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at MKubic@deadzeroshooting.com

As always, we are taking practical, common sense measures to deal with whatever popular crisis happens to be in vogue, either real or imaginary. That being said, we promote personal responsibility over all else. You make your own decisions about what is best for you and live with the consequences.

Shout out to Matt and the Deadzero staff for putting on these matches at a great facility. Shot f class for the first time in the last 8 years and was very impressed with the range. Huge covered firing line that’s out of the rain and in the shade, electronic target scoring, a well run and efficient match, and enough tricky wind/ terrain interactions to keep it more than interesting. Look forward to shooting here more often. Makes me almost miss pulling targets in the sunshine at AEDC.
Almost.....

Great match, awesome facilities, great people. Got to meet and shoot with dminn1 today, hey everyone don't let him BS you any, he can shoot!

Worst day of shooting I have had in 19 years, but that was 100% on me. I really appreciate Matt for putting in on, as well as Russ. These guys work hard to run the multiple ranges while the match runs concurrently. Really an awesome facility. I'm looking forward to getting back out, prepared.

Scores posted anywhere?

I'll do my best to get scores posted tomorrow on our website, Deadzeroshooting.com

We were slammed again today and I didn't have time to step foot in my office. We had a good turnout with 2 shooters completely new to F class shooting show up. One of them was obviously experienced in benchrest type shooting with a fantastic rifle. The other guy was brand new to competitive shooting, but showed great potential. We hope they come back for more. Two very good sling shooters made the trek from Illinois to shoot with us.

We are working on a couple of big matches for later this year with great sponsors involved. Stay tuned. I will post notices here as soon as we nail everything down.
Matt

Are those scores posted yet? I'm not finding them where I expected:

Nothing robs motivation for driving a long distance for a match like significant delays in seeing the scores posted.

I've only assisted in running them and have the utmost respect for what it takes.
Just because you paid your entry fee; the match directors are not your paid helpers, they have a much bigger picture and task at hand.

Yes, of course. But the expectation that match results eventually get posted is not unreasonable. Have a close look at the Dead Zero match results page. You will see that the October and November 2019 results have not been posted yet either.

Should shooters have to wait longer than 6 months?

You may find this hard to believe but when I started shooting, the match results arrived in the mail box by US Mail. The NRA rules said that they were to arrive within 30 days of the match. In fact my most recent copy of the rule book still says that. Now competitors expect them to arrive on their phone on the drive home.

Usually there was an awards ceremony with scores posted after the match and I though it was good sportsmanship to stay after the match for the awards ceremony and congratulate the winners even if it was a small match. This was also a good time to thank the Match Director for his efforts.

Match directors are volunteers and not employees and they have lives and other responsibilities that take priority. I record my scores and groups in my data book and now with etargets I use a screen shot as my backup. My main interest is how I did relative to my capability and my expectations. The scores of others are not so much important to me; when and how the match results are posted are not important to me.

I think it is more important to thank the Match Director for his efforts than complain about the timeliness on his posting of the results. Those of us who have run matches have a different perspective on this.
