Day 5? ND PD shooting

93F11637-448B-471B-8DB5-BC8094BE1326.jpeg Was a hot windy day, so did a road bicycle ride vs shooting a.m., for a change. 88 deg,
I had hoped for a good cool down and wind dropping at end of day- and I was rewarded with both. Took the Sako 75 .204 Ruger. Almost no wind; low sun made the dogs highly visible-no excuses.
This rifle previously shot 32g vmaxes / Varget into tiny groups until- it didn’t. 39g
Sierra Blitzkings and 25.5g Benchmark provided great accuracy again. 39’s are seated out as far as mag will allow, fwiw.
I used to check zero w all rifles brought out “here” after traveling. a 100 yd range of sorts.
Now I just take a rifle and shoot it. so far,
so good.Today- had some trouble getting ranges dialed in and 2-3 near misses. got the hang of the come ups and then had some fun shots out to 375-400 yds. The dogs accommodated me by lining up about 10 ft apart at the same yardage. I held dead on @ 400 yds & if you’ve shot in the Dakotas, you know that is a rare gift-calm air. Scope is NF BR 8-32X and clarity & contrast are superb. Shot a total of 24 rounds this afternoon.
OK by me.

CT. l know its a rough job out there. You seem to be making out ok tho. lt seems the prairie dogs may be practicing 'sociable distancing' by staying 10ft apart. That doesn't last long, esp when they get VMaxed. Sometimes they get so excited they go to PIECES. Being a bit familiar with Dakota winds l've seen a VMax do all kind of acrobats. Go left, go right. Even go Uphill, RISE too.

Wish I was there also. Son & I were supposed to go this year, then COVID messed that up. If he gets his promotion he’ll probably be in Hawaii for the next 6 years (Navy). By then I may not be able to go. Thank you Wuhan!

Sorry to hear of the near miss on the / your trip. Counting my blessings and appreciative of commitments to serve; and to those who have and are keeping watch for us all.

sw282- no complaints out here! The PD’s I see in the fall (I don’t get out here in spring anymore) - are dark brown and the size of
a mini league football. In the light brown grass, you can see em @ 300-600 yds w/o optics. When there 3 of em - feeding, and they “overlap“ in the scope, your target is effectively 3X; you know...well placed shot is a three-fer. sunset today 23 Sept.

Spent a few days in the Eastern part of Montana last week doing the same thing. The p-dogs are much better educated this time of year, but everything makes a BIG mess when you connect.splash.JPG

Glad others are still getting into them.
I'll be back out tomorrow for them again, lucky enough for me that I'm out 3-4 times a week on them at local ranches.
Retired now and plenty of free time for pdogs, coyote etc.

Huntin season has kicked off here. I leave em alone so I don't mess up someone's hunt. Besides livestock is being moved onto many of the pastures I shoot.

3-4 times a week?! guess you are replacing barrels on a regular basis. :) nice - enjoy all of it, pal.

5spd has 15,000 rounds, maybe more now on one .223 barrel. It still shoots moa. I keep up on his threads and posts on prairie dogging.
