Davidson Barrel Vice

Use it on my Viper and my Stolle works great.

I have one mounted on a 2 x 2 piece of steel tubing. It fits in the receiver hitch on my truck. I have used it on 1.25" straight and 1.25-1.0" tapered barrels. No complaints.

Yes, I also use the Davidson vise, bought from Sinclair: works fine, no problems, as does the Davidson rear entry action wrench. I wrap my barrel with several layers of heavy brown shopping bag paper and have never marked a polished blue, polished stainless and glass beaded barrels. Just get the 4 top nuts down good and tight so the barrel does not move and you won't have any problems. :)

I have one. It works fine on varmint weight barrels. But it's a hassle with sporter weight barrels, especially factory installed Rem. sporter weight barrels.

Thanks everyone for your input, I tried to order the barrel vise today at Sinclair, and they are out of stock until the end of June. Does anyone know of another supplier that has them. I didn't check the internet, be I will this morning.

short range: That's been my experience with Sinclair lately, ( and most others also), everything you try to order is out of stock, on back order, don't know when we'll get them, etc. Try contacting Davidson direct?

Thanks fdshuster, I wonder what's going on with Sinclair ? I did see that Bruno has a barrel vise that is " Davidson style" do you know anything about them ? They are the same price $54 and change. I made a barrel vise out of a 4x4 piece of hard wood, but it does grasp my barrel well enough, it slips in the vise no matter how tight I get it. I think my barrel is tightened much tighter than it needs to be, I think I will call the local gunsmith, hopefully he will have a barrel vice, and he can break it loose, then I can tighten it enough with the vice tast I made. When mine didn't work, I was hoping Sinclair could overnight a vise to me. I'm leaving on vacation on friday morning and I want to get my stock to the guy that's going to paint it before I go. now it's too late to order a vise.

Steve,

The barrel is not "tighter than it needs to be".

With barrel held firmly, a medium rap with the palm of my hand pops 'em loose. I've changed hundreds of barrels, and have never had a problem.

Your problem is with using 4x4's.

I took my rifle to the local gunsmith, he only charged my $5.00 to take off my barrel, can't beat that. After I get back from vacation, I can order a barrel vise.
