Dating a BSA Martini International Mk.II

Can I please have some opinions on the proof markings I have on my BSA Martini International Mk.II

I know that looking at the available letters, that the letter O is around 1964.

I just want to see if there is an agreement that the funny "6" on the left is actually an "O".

Tim,

As I understand it BSA stopped production of the Mk 2 for the Mk 3 in 1961-ish. So a 1964 proof would be unlikely except as a re-proof.

Perhaps GB for 1956 is more likely.

Yes, looking at it longer, it does look more like a "G".
As my serial number starts with UE: Martini International MK I + MK II Mixed 1953 - 1960

Sounds about right.

I shot it today for the first time and am impressed with the groups although it was a windy day.

The International Mk 2 is a solid rifle. Today the woodwork is rather basic for the intended prone shooting, and it's often muzzle heavy with a modern position (straighter and higher than in the 1950s), but if it fits...

I have 2 Martini MK 2 both in left hand, I collect everything for the BSA Martini's from every sight made and everused on them all of Al Freeland accs. made for them, anyway if you go to Rinfire Central.com and get into the Martini section they have all the info you will every need for your Martini including your markings on your rifle and the meaning.
