Back a bit when I started with the Dasher, I had the bright idea that I would use Wilson hand dies to just resize the neck, keeping my loading simple, i.e. one rifle, same brass, less trimming, long life, etc.
Well it kinda worked for a while, but after 3 reloads, I had cases that would not chamber, if I tried to force it (I wouldn’t), that case would surly be jammed in the chamber.
I measured the cases in question and the bump matched cases that chambered freely. I then marked up the cases and tried to chamber them, sure enough there was rub marks just above the extraction grove. Now another weird thing is that this affected only a dozen cases out of a few hundred, all with the same firings and sizing specs.
Generally when I size my cases, a final test before loading is to run them through my action without any firing pin or ejector. I want the bolt handle to gently close without any undue pressure. I don’t want a tough chamber at a match.
Now, maybe a body die or ring die was in order, but I sold the Wilson stuff and bought a Whidden bushing FL die and things have been fat and happy since.
Don’t know if there was any issues with that barrel and it’s chambering, but that barrel finished out it’s life fine and the next barrel has already won its share of matches. Not an issue since...
