Dasher Fire Forming Accuracy??

What kind of accuracy are you guys getting with your BR loads fire forming the into the Dasher?

Shot 30 rounds out of my new Dasher tonight and the accuracy was way below what I figured it should be.

I have the 107 SMK's mashed into the rifling in order to make the case form well, but it seems like it didn't promote accuracy.

Thanks

My Dasher was the same way, accuracy was not what I expected while fireforming and I was using some Berger VLD 105's. You will see great results the 2nd and 3rd times fired on the brass.

I was forming brass last night in mine, about 3" groups at 350 yards using blem Hornady 105 Amax's purchased via Midway. Discounting a couple of fliers, most were falling into about 2". I'm jamming the snot out of them and using 30.5gr. Varget, the cases are coming out real nice. The shoulders are about .002" short of other brass which has been fired 3x.

Well that makes me feel a little better.

However of the four groups I shot last night I had only one that was under an inch at 100 yards.

We're suspecting the gun didn't fit in the stock very well, I didn't re-bed the thing when I got all the parts back together. So hopefully it will shoot a little better after I get her bedded right! :o

I didn't do much testing at 100 yards but it would shoot little clover leaf groups all of them would be touching. Shot most of them at a 600 yard shoot best group was a 1.6 next one was a 2.0. 105vld jammed 25 thousandth 30.5 gr varget 205 primer lost 2 cases out of 200.

My Dasher shoots jammed, fireforming cases just under MOA @ 100 yards. That's all the distance I ever tried except for a few fireform shots at 600.

The gun does not like jammed SMK's and with a .010 jump shoots in the .2's.

I would not concern myself with fireform performance except if they don't make good cases.

I found this old photo of my first Dasher barrel in 2008, it has the bullets and loads listed shot at 100. Top middle is a sight in group.

Adjust your powder a tenth or two grain. All of my fireforming loads would shoot 1/2 MOA or better. You should not see any diiference in formed cases if you have to drop a tenth.

Thanks guys.....I have the gun rebedded now....just waiting for it to set up and dry. Hopefully I can get out this weekend and have some more fun!

My cases look pretty good so I'm not overly concerned about anything.

Thanks again for the info!

I use the false shoulder method to form and easily get 1/2 moa while fireforming. You might give it a try. Good luck.

Regards, Paul.

My fireforming loads were very accurate with Varget and 105 A-Max jamming and or with false-shoulder method.

I'll be the contrarian....mine shot lights out with 30.5 of Varget and 108BTs and virgin brass jammed .030. These are 10 shots at 200, 1" ten rings.
In fact it shot them better than my some of my later loads!

Well I got to shoot to groups this morning with formed brass and a new bedding job!

.332 and .110!!! Now hopefully it will do it time and time again!

So far, my FF load of 31 G Varget, 105 Berger BT's, 450,s, false sholder and bullet jammed HARD is the most accurate load this gun has ever seen....including the 1K nats tube from last year. The problem.....Speed...not bullet speed, but shooting speed. The force needed to close the bolt on on my loaded rounds is considerable....making shooting fast hard to do. But the load was holding .2 moa out to 500 yards in calm conditions!!
