Dasher die problem

I tried to prep my new brass in a way I have never done before, and using a false shoulder. I necked the brass up to 260/6.5 and then run them back down. The problem I am having is with my Harrell's die. It shaves off a light layer of the brass as it is necked back down. I even tried starting them in my seater die, and still have the problem with them shaving off brass on the outside of the necks. With that said where can I get a cheap die to neck these down to the right area?

After expanding them to .264, that also makes them round, I chamfer the case mouth and then polish the chamfer (with 0000 steel-wool).
If I don't I will see sliver shavings as well with my dies (a Simison custom and a Redding S Neck die).
But after being chamfered and polished, they slip through like butter, with no hints of shaving.

Well just tried that, and it is still pealing brass off the outside. (Maybe not as bead but still doing it.)

Harrell's dies are not opened up enough to let the expanded size neck go through. I have a Forrester die I have to use first. Take the top off your Harrell's, remove the bushing, & stick a case in from the top, It won't go!

Thought I'd better mention, my Forrester die might have been opened up by JLC. I don't know. It would be worth asking Forrester before buying one.

And what size bushing is he starting with in the first place. If he is trying to go from .264 to 6mm in one sizing the bushing will shave it right down. You would have to do it in steps.Bushing neck dies lack the transition for sizing down like this.A regular full length or neck die would work easy without any shaving.

+1 This works for me

I have a Forster as well and it takes the brass from 6.5 to 6mm in one pass. I do neck-turn which involves all of the polishing described in an earlier reply. My Forster is stock. I believe the inside neck diameter of the die is .260 inches which could be too tight with no turn brass.

Instead of .264 try expanding to .257 and see if that helps. Otherwise you may just have to turn the necks, jam a bullet 30 thou and with 3 thousandths neck tension and use a soft primer like a CCI400 to fireform without a false shoulder. I do this with 30gr of varget and a 107SMK and blow length is 1.542 on avg. Performance is great on target.

With a Harrells die, it won't happen. The hole through the die just barely let's a no turn 6mm case pass. Best bet is conventional sizer like a Forster.
