I have a 8-twist barrel with a .135" free bore, shooting 87grn V-Max with
32.0 grn. IMR 8208 XBR. No pressure signs, very small groups.

The reason I ask is my BR imp. with .120 fb.can not touch the lands or hold a bullet with .120 fb. I use .060 fb. and it shoots in the zero's with 32+ gr. of 8208 XBR and Barts 80 gr bt. ....... jim

I stumbled on a load with an 8 twist BRA that consists of 31.5 gr. of 8208 XBR, Federal 205 primers, and 87gr. Berger Hunting VLD"s,DSCF4015.JPG loaded about .008 into the lands.

given a 80 to 87 grain bullet what twist do you recommend .shooting groundhogs and competeing in groundhog matches.how fast would they be going out of a 26 inch barrel.

I still haven't tried the 87 gr V maxs yet in my 1-8 twist Dasher. Some say even the 70 gr bullets shoot well out of 1-8.For 70 br Nosler BT's & Sierras I use 1-14 twist.I assume for 80's a 1-12 or 87-88 gr.a 1-10.For groundhog matches if further out than 3-400 yrds I'd use 105's with 1-8 twist. For shooting & killing varmints I'd use lighter bullets.Others might have better info for you.

34.5 gr RE15, Lapua Brass, CCI 450's, 87 Vmax. xp100 action, Jewel trigger & 26" Hart 1-10 twist has never shot over .6" @ 300 as long as I watch conditions & lot numbers.
