Dakota Light Varmint Pricing

People in the know believe this to be one of the best values in a rifle of bench rest quality. Dakota uses Nesika designed and built single shot s/s actions that are as straight as they come along with an air gauge Douglas barrel and XX quality wood to make a rifle that anyone would be proud of. The 5 I've owned or own shoot better than 1/4" (5 shot groups at 100 yards) on a regular basis for me. The good news is they have lowered the price. It's hard to believe a company that makes a product this good is actually lowering the price of their product. First Stop Guns out of South Dakota(one of Dakota's largest dealers)is offering these rifles at $1800. You owe it to yourself to call Mark at First Stop and buy one of these beauties. I have no connection to either of these quality company's and offer this news only because I like these rifles so much. Fact is as soon as I heard of this pricing I ordered another one in 20 SCC (20/221 Fireball Ackley Improved). Check this out. It will be worth your time.

The first picture is my Dakota in 6BR in a Montana prairie dog town. I take this rifle along for the windy days. The next one is in 20 Vartarg. This is the rifle I use the most while prairie dog shooting. The target is the first 4 groups I ever shot out of the 20 Vartarg. This type of accuracy will definitely spoil you.

I'm not sure how you are measuring your groups, but a group 3 bullets wide will compute 2 bullet holes wide. Your 204 would be a .400 group. Nice looking rifle, but not a BR rifle.

Butch your probably not far off. I usually measure to the outside, then measure one of the holes and deduct that figure. I probably err on on small side. Hopefully it works out in the end. Your getting kind of picky I guess. Obviously not a BR gun but they are built with quality components and even with my questionable measurements the gun shoots a lot of groups in the 1s and 2s.

Install other than a "Tent Stake" Douglas Bbl on your Dakota/Nesika action & you still won't have a BR capable rifle.

I'd venture to say that Butch has been correctly measuring BR targets longer than you've been on this planet.

I do not think these are supposed to be BR rifles - but they certainly shoot minute of prairie dog and are a very good buy for the quality of the action and wood versus getting a full custom at 2-3 times more $$ that may or may not shoot as well. Thanks for the heads up Mr. Hall.

The 20 Vartarg has become my favorite cartridge when it comes to prairie dog shooting. I'm hoping the 20 Vartarg Improved will be even better.

Well let me try an say this the right way here is a couple bench rifles with what you call tent pegs of a Douglas barrels.

My rifle that I just finished is a Pierce Titanium receivered rifle in 280AI with a custom Brown Precision Kevlar stock, Jewell trigger, and a "Douglas barrel". I have quite a bit of money invested in this rifle. I did not buy the Douglas to save money. I need to put a scope on it and take it to the range.

I have no doubt that it will be a shooter.

Butch that's a good looking gun and I'm sure the Douglas barrel won't hurt the way it shoots any. The two Douglas barreled rifles I've got shoot as good as any barrel I've got.

If these groups were shot without using windflags then I am going to assume this in one hella accurate rifle. There is very little verticle. To buy a hunting rifle with this accuracy potential for $1800 NEW is very intriguing. I don't know what a 40x from Remington is going for these days but I bet they are significantly more and won't hold a candle next to this rifle.
