Daily Bulletin -- Articles Wanted Now

Forum Boss

Administrator
Folks, I'm going to try to take a couple days off this weekend (first vacation in 16 months). Accordingly, I'm sending out a call for Daily Bulletin submissions.

This could be a short item about a new product, a reloading/shooting tip, a match report, or something of general interest to shooters (such as today's story about Bruce Hodgdon's first purchase of 4895 powder from the government.) We also run Bulletin items about noteworthy sales and/or discount programs.

Story Specs:
  • 3-4 paragraphs
  • 300 - 400 words Max
  • Finish edited. (This means complete sentences with proper grammar, spell-checked, fact-checked, with appropriate title and one or two sub-topic lead lines)
  • Full, verified links to mentioned companies. (This means a tested URL that links to a website, along with a short title such as: www.savagearms.com [Savage Arms])
  • 2-4 photos, at least 800 pixels wide. These should be sharp and not require extensive photo manipulation. Photos should be sent as separate, attached jpeg files. Do NOT embed the pictures in a Word File or PDF.
  • Story text must be submitted as plain text, no formatting. It's OK to paste the text in an email.

While we always welcome reader submissions, in this case I really need "turn-key" articles that are "finished" (with verified names, locations, product prices etc.) that I don't have to spend an hour or two fixing or researching. Think "cooked meal ready-to-eat" rather than a bag of groceries.

If you have been interested in getting started as a writer, here's your chance to see your name in print and put your words/ideas in front of a worldwide audience. Writers will receive a by-line, and this could lead to future paid assignments.

I just released our first Reader contribution, a Report by Forum Member Ian Pavy (aka ThunderDownunder) on the NIOA Savage Cup in Australia.

Ian did a great job. This is an excellent example of a Daily Bulletin Match Report. Ian's 408-word submission required minimal editing -- I simply moved around a couple sentences to coordinate with the photos. One nice element of Ian's story is that he explained the difference between Australian and USA scoring systems:

Scoring Note: The NIOA Savage Cup featured an ICFRA target with 6 as the highest ring count and a half-MOA X-ring. The Australian system of 60 points for ten shots can be equated to American scoring (100 points for ten shots) by adding 40 to each Aussie range score.

Thanks Ian for a job well done!
