CZ 550 6.5X55

Do any of you have experience with CZ rifles? I think I want to get a CZ 550 in 6.5x55. I love the set trigger on them, but have no idea what to expect accuracy wise.

The reason I wanted this rifle is because I eventually want to ream it to 6.5x284. I will be using it primarily for hunting. If it shoots under an inch at 100 Ill be happy. Do you think that kind of accuracy is likely from this type of rifle?

Hi Buckshot, wecome to the site.

I got a CZ 550 laminated 22/250 2 years ago and I got to say there a good gun for the $$$. The set trigger is good once you get used to it. The primary trigger can be adjusted down to about 1 lb. Mine is a 6br now after I shoot out the first bbl.

Acuracy was never that great becuse of the exess freebore it had but it still shot sub moa with most loads. I got the action blueprinted when I rebarreled and now I use it to shoot varmits out to 600yrds in a 1:10 douglas...will get a more spendy bbl next time.

I don`t think they got the lam. version in 6.5x55 but if you`ll want to rebarrel anyway it might be the better wat to go if you want to target shoot.

I would just leave it in 6.5x55, with modern equipment and loads you can make a swede fire the projectiles awefully fast. Remember it was orginally designed as a limit of 55,600 psi. no reason you can't push the pressure to 59,000 psi, just realize your brass won't last as long.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the info. I did purchase the rifle and will hopefully see how it does on paper this morning. I think I will leave it as 6.5x55 if I can get it to shoot.

GET euro brass- lapua, norma, RWS or my favorite- hirtinberger or Seller & bellot.

The Euro brass is made to withstand higher pressures as it made in modern actions still over there and it can be loaded up and used to make the 6.5x55 really sing.

Euro brass is also sized correctly in the web area- IMHO- is much safer to hot rod than USA made brass.

I loaded euro brass up with what were warm loads in USA brass and there wern't even any signs of pressure.
mild USA brass loads were giving me smoked/sooty cases with Euro brass.
Very warm but not hot USA brass loads were just starting to show signed of expnsing, prmer flattening in euro brass.

I have stepped up euro brass to almost failure and I wont be doing that again.
Warm loads in Euro brass puts the 6.5x55 only a few FPS behind the 6.5x284 with less powder burned.

It seems to like RL 22 @ 2550 fps using 142 SMKs. It was grouping under.75 in mild winds at 100yds. I will try european brass and see if I can get it to group tighter faster. Thanks

CZ 550 Full Stock, 6.5X55. 45.8 gr of H4350, Lapua brass, Hornady 129 gr Spire Point, Federal LR primers.

Ten shots, sling supported prone at 200 yards. First two shots are the high ones after zeroing at 100 yards. The next 8 clsuter into about 1.5 MOA.

The stiffest target loads with vit powders for the Sauer match rifle is loaded to 365 mpa, source www.landro.no) which an online conversion calculator tells me is 52,940 psi. This usually throws a 140gr bullet about 2790fps allthough a more normal load is around 2650 fps.

SAAMI MAP 46,000CUP/ 51,000 psi is probably kept low due to older rifles.
