CZ 527 Chamberings

Howdy guys.

Pretty quick question. For the cz 527 chamberings, did they all use the same magazine? I'm going to try get one soon. I'd probably be re barreling it to .223 or a 223-case based round. I just want to know if there are any other chamberings aside from .223 that would work for this project. Same with bolt heads. I'd expect the 7.62x39 not to work, but would others work?

Thank you for your time. Justin U.

Hello, you'd best get a 223 based 527 if you are planning on using a 223 as your base cartridge. CZ used different length mags and differently sized bottom metal for the various calibers the 527 was chambered in. E.

7.62 x39 and 6.5 Grendel use the same mag.

I'm pretty sure the Hornet mag and metal is different than the 222, 221 heres a pic of the Hornet mag with a 20VT case in it.
I will bet the 223,222, 204 and 17 Rem are all the same mag and metal.
The 204 on the right.

Keep in mind if you are considering a fast twist barrel to shoot heavier bullets in the 223 that the magazine length can be a real limiting factor if one of your goals is to be a repeater.

The pick below shows a 223 with a 53 gr. V-max loaded to mag length. The other end of the bullet is below the neck already.

I had a 204 and 223 for a while. Seems like the 204 fed fine from 223 magazines but the 223 wouldn't feed so good out of the 204 magazines.

hmmm. I might have to reconsider if I wanted to shoot 75 and 80 grain bullets. I figured that this would be a goldilocks action, but that is a pretty short coal.
I made a mistake that I don't want others to make. I pretty much wasted a really nice Krieger 8 twist barrel because I thought I knew what I was doing.

So, why not use a howa mini action instead, since hens teeth CZ527 actions/rifles are scarce & pricey ??

I made one up for the repeater ability, the got a howa mini action instead, both bolts are the same length & diameter, actions are same size..

I own both & had the luxury of purchasing the 527's when they were available new. Some seemed to actually detest the 527 for the backwards safety & the gaudy magazine that hung down. Some even chose to get rid of the set trigger.

Personally the 527 is my all time favorite rifle. They did quite a number of chambering's. If you do go for a 527, it sounds like 223 may be the preferred rifle for what you are explaining your intent would be. Good news is they made a lot of the 223's. Bad news is folks are rather proud of there 527's these days. They do not come cheep.

If you like the set trigger on the 527 then the 527 is your only choice. If you defiantly do not like the set trigger then Howa mini, will defiantly be your more cost effective option.

Have had a number of favorite 527's, currently my favorite is a 7.62 x 39 converted to a 6mm ARC.

They have offered 22 Hornet 17 HH, 17Rem, 204 Ruger along with the 221 fireball, 222 & your 223. Then the 7.62x39 & the 6.5 Grendel. Back in the day the they were rather cost effective rifles for what they did. To find one today the cost effective side has lost out, from my observations.
