CZ 527 17 Hornet - .5MOA Best It Can Do?

Wow, those are exceptional groups. What kind of velocity are you getting with these groups? I just picked up a 17 remington barrel and put in on a savage action I had laying around. Shot some factory ammo out of it at just under .5" groups at 100 yards. Will start work on reloading for that, I think I may have to try BLK to see how it does.
I'm getting about 3650 fps average velocity on that load. I'd like to hear how that 17 Remington loads go.

I haven't been at it for 3 years, but it seems like forever with all the testing. I have tried a number of powders (A2200, CFE BLK , H322) mostly really tried to get my A1680 to perform, it likes Rem 7 1/2 primers. I got it to average just under .50" but wanted to get something better. Last week I tried the combination of BLK powder with CCI-400 primers, 20 Vmax at 1.455" base to ogive, and the middle load of 12.6 gave me two great groups: .108" and .30".

So I tested that load again today, and got .19" and .19" groups! FINALLY!!!

I have to ask. What is "BLK" powder? Black powder comes to mind. But I know that aint right.

Sorry, it's short for CFEBLK powder, it's from Hodgdon. The CFE meaning "Copper Fouling Eraser" and BLK is short for 300 Blackout. It says on the bottom: "IDEAL FOR 300 AAC Blackout, 17 Hornet, 7.62x39mm, 221 Fireball" I didn't realize it until just now it actually has 17 Hornet on the label! Anyway, it has great burn rates for the 17 Hornet and my 20 V-max likes 12.6 grains, and CCI400 primers as its favorite load right now.

OK I do have a small amount here from another adventure. 2200 works so well I hate to even try anything else, but, hey life is short and I have time.

Also, Do you know what your twist is on your 17 fireball barrel?

Anybody here anything about a CZ rifle in, say, 17 Hornet (or any of the many calibers that are not replicated in there model 600 lineup)?

I cannot believe they discontinued calibers without an immediate replacement in a different rifle. Bizarre. Or at least give us a product roadmap?

That's kinda bizarre. I'm glad I got mine in 2018, it's been a wonderful rifle. Love the single set trigger, walnut stock, action, etc. I wasn't aware they have a new 600 line coming out.
I purchased mine by selling about eight 5-pound buckets of brass for scrap to get the money... it was like doing squats 5,000 times to pick that all up!

CZ 527 and 550s were are my favorite factory rifles, so I’m not at all impressed with the new lineup.

I also love my 527 17 hornet. I have been on the lookout for another 527 or two for the past 2 years and only found one gun, a synthetic 223 rem 527. I passed because I love the walnut. I've been looking for a 17 rem, but ran out of patience and just picked up a savage barrel and built it on a savage action.

As the OP on this thread. I am still shooting AA 2200 with the 20gr vmax with great results. It is still giving consistently under .5moa groups. Occasionally, it will print 5 shots the .3s at 100 yards with collet sizing.

CZ 527's are amazing little actions, and I love to build on them. I am perplexed and disappointed that CZ has discontinued these as they seem to be hot sellers and popular. For bench rifles, I have been using the HS precision Kevlar stocks which are a far better option than the wood stocks. My field carry 527's (American) stay in wood stocks though, and I do bed at least the recoil lug, and more if needed. The .17HH is just a fantastic little cartridge, very civilized, quiet, accurate, low recoil.
