CZ 457 triggers ?

CZ told my buddy that there are two 457 triggers, black ones and chrome. What are the differences? CZ tried to discourage him from lightening the black trigger by replacing with a lighter spring. Have any of you knowledge of the differences between the two? I have already replaced the spring in my MTR, which has the chrome version, to reduce trigger weight. Thanks in advance.

Cosmetics only. The discouragement of the lighter trigger is a legal maneuver to try and help protect CZ from lawsuits from idiots.

Of course this is a hopeless battle....

I noticed the 457 VPT I bought had the black trigger, while both my American & MTR had the shiny ones. I just figured CZ was using the black one on the precision trainer to 'enhance' the tactical appearance of this rifle in its Manners carbon fiber GAP camo stock. I'd replaced the OEM bbls of both the American & MTR with Shilen ratchet rifled blanks, and since I wasn't happy with the accuracy of the 24" VPT bbl, I pulled and replaced it with the take-off MTR Match bbl, then put the MTR/Shilen bbl'd action into the VPT's Maners stock. Didn't care for the look of the MTR's chrome trigger in the Manners stock, so swapped triggers on those two actions. I didn't change springs, just adjusted sear engagement and spring tension on both triggers after the swap. I got the VPT trigger in the MTR action down do right at 1lb, and the MTR trigger in the VPT action down to just a hair over 1lb. If there was any difference between to two triggers - aside from the trigger shoe color - I didn't find it.

Do you still have the 24" VPT barrel?

I have tried several springs from popular sources, the best one is on ebay for 8.99....took my MTR trigger to 8 ozs. I have adjusted both triggers with black and chrome trigger and seen no difference in adjustment when using the above mentioned spring.

Likewise, would you provide the eBay info for the spring you use?

Here’s an update on my original post. Yesterday CZ delivered a new “chrome” trigger to replace the “black” one that came in my buddy’s 457. This morning we changed them out. The lowest possible weight we could get from the original was 2 1/2 lb. The newly installed “chrome” trigger was promptly adjusted to 1 1/4 lb. Yes, other than the cosmetics, these looked exactly alike but definitely adjusted differently. By the way it seemed as if we needed six hands to install the new one because of the trigger bar spring. We are going to order some springs mentioned above to get weights under a pound. Thanks for your input folks.

Sorry didn't see this post.
McMaster-Carr spring # 9657K612
I ordered these springs and they didn’t work for me. This spring actually raised my trigger to over two pounds. I’m researching other springs to try and achieve the lighter trigger weight. This is becoming frustrating!

Today I’m going to try and make phone contact with a spring manufacturer. If I get a positive response to my inquiry, I’ll post my results. I see that the spring that mrh1958 mentioned is back on eBay for sale. That may prove to be another option. Thanks for everyone’s input.

I know this is an old thread but for those just joining in I have another option. Use a Ruger 10/22 trigger return spring. File down the narrow end of the spring until the spring length is 0.360" inches long. The factory spring is about 0.146" in diameter, the Ruger spring is 0.152" and fits nicely in the trigger and trigger housing recesses. At a length of 0.370" I recorded a 1.25 lb pull and at 0.360" I recorded a 1 lb trigger pull. My stock CZ spring at 0.350" length gave me a 2.25 lb pull. There are several manufacturers that offer reduced Ruger 10/22 trigger return springs, but I haven't tried them being happy with the 1.25 lb pull of my 457 squirrel sniper. All weights were measured without contact from the trigger weight adjustment screw making contact with the spring.
