CZ 457 MTR

How's the demand for this sweet rifle doing? Seems it's one of the best choices for a "starter" benchrest/NRL .22lr. rifle. I have one, shot it once, and it has proven this accuracy record with match ammo. Problem is, I'm at a crossroads. I'm either selling it and moving up to a custom rimfire OR quitting the rimfire matches and just plink.

Your asking a lot of questions you need to decide your self.
For "factory class" it's one of the better out there.
A friend has two and wins Factory Class quite often.
Took another and replaced barrel, trigger, chassis and wins against VooDoo and Rimx's
in unlimited. ( basically used the action )
You could probably sell it now for what you have in it. They are hard to find and hot.
A full custom will cost you a lot $ and time.

Shooting in Unlimited Class competition is a lot less "fun" than Factory or plinking - IMO anyway. It is exacting competition and the class is filled with competitors who shoot to win. You here a lot more *&$@% exclamations on the line in Unlimited. Again just my opinion.

If you are going to plink get a nice 10/22 and have a blast.

keep it! Only go up in value--is a Winner in the FUN class of Factory--ARA
After shooting lots of matches I am happy to have found ARA--the rifle can compete anywhere they shoot in the country--you build a "custom" and it will not be legal here or there or ?? You build unlimited you just line it up and touch a trigger--is that really what you want to do??
Keep that fine rifle--Thank me later~

If it's a shooter, keep it.I shot a semi benchrest 457,Modacam 26" with tuner, in my first NRL,placed middle of the pack, marked up the stock some.Slap a chassis on it,or rework a Boyds Varmint pro stock, save the stock.PDC customs chassis balance nice with factory heavy barrels.

I have one that I swapped out the trigger, had the stock pillared and bedded and installed installed a Harrel tuner. I’m honestly disappointed with the results. I’m considering bolt shimming and replacing the original barrel. At this point, I already have more invested than I can sell it for. What really hurts is that I picked up a “rusty” Kimber 82G and it will outshoot the MTR. If I had it to do over, I would have spent a bit more and built a custom rig. This is only my opinion, for what it’s worth. ………Good Shooting.

We have 4 MTR's--they all shoot fantastic but....you need to do action screw tq testing- this Really matters -you have to establish a cleaning routine that the rifle likes- we run a patch after two cards 50 rounds during a match -and most of all you Must have a Lot of ammo that is great--I hear all the time a lot "the rifle likes' Let me tell you after 5 CZ's and cases upon cases of ammo fired--If I get a lot that shoots crazy good in one rifle it Will shoot crazy good in all of my rifles--
We have tested all of the after market triggers--they all are pitiful compared to a proper tuned factory trigger IMO

I sorta accidentally bought 2 MTRs back in April. At that time they were very hard to find but the ship came in finally! I was in the market for 1 but read something that I thought
was about CZ discontinuing the MTR and the deal that I found was decent so I ordered 2. Then I discovered my brain fart so I still have a NIB that I've never inserted the bolt into and she's gonna stay in the family.

My CZ 457 Varmint shoots very accurately in Hunter class but I can't beat the MTR's. I shoot 498/500 and loose by 2 points. I am on waiting lists at two places but no luck so far.

Its the chamber The MTR puts the bullet into the rifling and chamber is tighter--Like you I had a different CZ --without the match chamber--it shot great but no match for our MTR's
Good Luck--One will show up
