CZ 457 MTR

Our gang has 4 new MTR's they are all shooting great! They all seem to like about 19-20 in lbs on action screw tq They all seem to like fresh clean barrels--other than that they are hammering! Two of us tied for first in last match and the other rifle finished second and then a third--we are shooting against tricked out rifles --all we have done is a trigger spring
FWIW at 20 in lbs the front action screws do seem to loosen up a little after a match--stay on top of it--we tested in 5 in lb increments to find the sweet spot--and all seem to love SK

Good shooting there JD ! Have Fun!

My like the in lbs at 22# on the front screw and 18 in lbs on the rear screw I also put in the trigger spring and I'm running it at 10 oz. the lapua and SK are about the same group size.

We have discovered during lots of normal testing and from match experience
CLEAN fresh barrel shoots best--we kept on doing our best of the day on first card--every match--we only shoot two cards at the one match but shoot 4 at our other place --we were not doing well in the second matches
During a long test yesterday where we ran through about 350 rounds through each of two MTR's --we found if we cleaned every 50-60 rounds that scores were much better--things would tail off after about 125 to 150 and just make ammo look bad and make us look bad--we would run two wets and 5-6 dry then a few pops to get it back and whammo--Back to x's and looking like we knew how to shoot

How would a MTR shoot with aluminum pillars installed & full action bedding???
Would this keep the accuracy on par??

The first thing to check is to remove the action screws and rock the action in the stock to determine it is actually riding on the pillars. Mine had a sea-saw rocking motion on a high spot between the pillars, and removing a little wood in that region resolved it plus unusual flyers.

You are ready to bed your action also-

I will tell you our experience--we bought 4 at one time--4 shooters in Factory Class--we added a trigger spring--set screw tq after testing and away we went. So far in last couple of months we have racked up 4 wins, 5 runner ups and 5-6 3rd place. We shoot against MTR rifles that have been bedded, re chambered, re crowned, pillared, tuner goo under the barrels etc etc--Average scores are 15-18x with every now and then a 21 or 22x We shoot right with all the fancy modified rifles
I would not dare mess with mine unless they start whooping us--so far we are hanging in there with them---also most are using rests--we shoot bipods and Protektor rear bags
I think that is our weak spot--getting the rifles steady and ammo Not the fancy mods--now I base this on what I have observed in the last few months at matches.
We constantly strive to get the bipods steadier--removing the rubber feet is Job #1, then we are using them at shortest height with slack taken up by wood board with holes drilled to accept the bipod legs--sand paper on bottom of the boards. I think a bipod is like a ladder--if you are on the top step it waves around ( bipod on extended legs) If you have it at lowest setting much less play.

Another Trick we have learned with the ATLAS Bipods
I noticed the notches for leg positions are Tapered--so I have found that when leg is in desired position I can pry the pin outward--I started out using a screw driver but now use a brass drift and a whack with a very small hammer--You know you have done it right when you can't mash the button on the outside and release the leg==This tiny trick actually takes some slack and motion Out of the bipod--causing you to need almost no loading--it has helped us a lot--we discovered this by simply observing our rigs on bags and bipod and simply pushing fore and aft to discover where all the slop was coming from--Guys this really works but nothing works until you ditch the wobbley rubber feet on the Atlas-- You can get all the slop out of your set up and thus have to "load" the rig MUCH less if at all

This has really helped our crew

Well..just received this used MYSTIC Bipod from member here--just back from testing
We shoot 50 yd off the bench--Wow! We have been fighting the "loading" issue on bipods--have experimented with lots of them and this EGW Mystic Bipod sure seems to Solve the issue--Zero back and forth movement--It was refreshing to just concentrate on the rear bag, the hold, and trigger while NOT thinking about the bipod loading --This bipod looks like a game changer for our application! I can't tell you how much better the whole rig felt--target results were very very promising--so just scored a second one for my shooting buddy from another member here
THANKS Accurateshooter!! What a great bunch of folks here. And...these are USA made!
Next match in about a week so ...we will see.

Wow now That looks like a sturdy steady bipod!!
Nope don't have one--we are not cheap skates just old retired guys that don't ever want to work a job again-so way out of our budget. We enjoy trying to beat the $$ crowd at the match that are shooting off of high dollar rests.
