CZ 457 MTR velocity

Hi there,

Recently owner of a cz457mtr, I did some velocity tests after some hundread shots, and I'm surprised about ammo velocity.

All munitions I have tried are going supersonic out of the muzzle, and even subsonics are going supersonic.

Did you also experimented that ? And would you know an ammo able to stay subsonic ?

For information, here are average speed values at 3 meters of the muzzle :

Sk standard plus : 1119 fps (min 1092, max 1155)
Sk rifle match : 1100 fps
Rws rifle match : 1158 fps (min 1142, max 1175)
CCI standard : 1138 fps
Rws target pistol : 1198 fps

Rws hp subsonic : 1096 fps (min 1079, max 1122)
Norma subsonic : 1079 fps (min 1063, max 1102).

Thanks for answering and sharing !

Those velocities are faster than mine. I use a magneto speed .
Cci sv ran 1071 to 1092 15 shot string
Eley match ran 1055 to 1068 15 shot string
Center x ran 1080 for 15 shot string

The chronograph is allright, I have checked results with high-speed camera and microphone, and it also gives me correct velocities with my other 22 rifles. Only the mtr gives such speeds.
We also hear the bang of Mach while shooting subsonics with suppressor.

If one were to go to SAAMI's (Sporting Arms & Ammunition Institute) web site, they do allow a 90FPS +/- tolerance for ammunition velocities, therefore the variation and also a need to use a chronograph to get actual velocity recordings from individual firearms.
I would NOT be without my chronograph, as it hasn't ever lied to me as yet:

Funny this comes up right after I have the same questions???? Tuesday at the range with my new CZ 457 Varmint MTR (with match chamber as witnessed by the bullet engraving on an Eley Match round). I shot a total of 22 five shot groups with Eley (black) Match listed at 1060 fps. My average for each five shot group was in and around 1150 fps as checked on my LabRadar. Yet, S&K standard plus, Aguila Match S&K flat nose and Wolf match target all came in around the 1060 to 1080 range. My partner was also shooting his CZ 457 (without the match chamber) and the same ammo was averaging 1115 fps. His lot of Eley Match was listed as 1070 fps? It almost seems like maybe the match chamber along with maybe a slightly tighter bore????
We actually exchanged "lots" and they both reacted the same? Can't be two bad LabRadars?
Any further thoughts? I am not new at benchrest (see week #50 on this forum) but am a little newer getting into the .22 rimfires. This is an upgrade from my semi custom 10/22.

Obviously magic rifles. Don't think it would be the tighter bore as my Lilja titebores don't show that type of increase. Probably ensorcelled direct from the factory.

I just finished up testing some newly arrived CCI Mini-Mag Target and Varmint ammunition along with some SK Rifle Match in my CZ 457 MTR. I haven't chronographed these rounds as yet, but this thread has got me thinking that maybe the slight additional pressure having the bullet set into the rifling might be raising the velocities slightly? :

Last week we ran two LabRadar's on either side of my barrel and they both concurred on the high velocity readings. They were also both within 10 fps velocity readings. The same lot of Match ammo out of my Green river 10-22 barrel clocked in the 1080 fps range? I understand there is some bleed off with the automatics but 80 fps is significant!
Only shot at 50 yards but the POI was higher with the Match vs. the S&K at 1090.

interesting testing .... fairly new bench shooter here and I have an MTR. I'm sorta confused reading through all the numbers in the replies.
To confirm - Is this test saying that velocity is increasing when run through the MTR match chamber/barrel by approximately 80 fps ?

I just ran a velocity test on my new 457 MTR last weekend with Lab Radar and on Tuesday using a MagnetoSpeed and all tested within a few FPS difference. All the rounds registered 75-110 fps faster than the advertised numbers. i.e: Eley Target: 1149 fps; Eley Tenex: 1156; Wolf Match Extra: 1149; SK High Velocity Match: 1341; Lapua Center-X: 1118. All were 10 round strings and those are the Avg. I was mostly surprised of the single digit SDs. Did not test for accuracy, that will happen this weekend shooting 11 different ammunition.
Can it be due to the Match Chamber and barrel?

The other day I ran some Federal "PUNCH" defensive ammunition through my CZ 457 MTR. These rounds have an advertised velocity of 1650 FPS from a 24-inch factory test barrel. Here is the print-out of velocities I recorded from my Oehler 35P chronograph:
