CZ 457 MTR or Tikka T1X MTR?

I own 4 CZ 457s and they are great little rifles, and even compete my VPT (with CZ 20" match barrel) against the likes of Vudoo, Bergara , Anschutz, and Tikka in our local matches and win or place occasionally against those guys. That said, I think it could be a toss up that you would get a real shooter in each brand. Good luck in your choice!

I have a Tikka T1X and a CZ457 Varmint, not the MTR Varmint model. These two rifles are neck in neck for accuracy in my hands.

This year the highest agg ARA factory shooter here in Florida is a woman by the name of Cecilia Young, she shoots a Tikka T1X, Harris bipod and rear leather bag.
Last year she was #1 in the state with that Tikka T1X.

I also have a Bergara BMR that's a decent shooter. It may be better than that. I've never shot any ammo in it like I have my other rifles. It comes with a match chamber like the B14R.

I just picked up the Tikka T1X last week. $569. Waiting on my scope mount, so I haven’t shot it yet. I have a T3X that is an absolute hammer. So I had the vertical grip from that that I put on it, as well as a trigger job. Will also put a Tikka recoil pad on it for a little extra LOP. Everybody and their brother has a CZ 457 so that’s the reason I went Tikka.

I have the CZ457AT-One, not a fan of the stock or the way the mags feed. I got that version because of the adjustability of the stock. Put a 1/2" high 0 MOA rail and the lower height (1.25?) version XTR Signature rings on it, Tract 4-20x50. Tossed a Yo Dave spring in it.
Didn't really want to buy a 30MOA rail, wanted to use those rings, more versatile. In my searches yesterday, noticed some 1" "low" Burris rings being advertised, still have to investigate that to see if they are what I want, or not.
Stock is too short for me, cheekpiece won't go high enough with that setup on it.. Boyd's does sell extended versions of the cheekpiece and buttplate, but, that will be a 300.00 bill by the time I get them here (Cda). The mags I have are 25rd CZ's, they don't like slow feeding at all, and I don't like the way the rounds hit going in when fast feeding, too low. It shoots OK. NDR mags may cure that issue, 80.00/pop though.
Debating on an MDT stock, not sure, Field or maybe XRS, not hard to spend 800.00 there, 370.00- 650.00 plus about another 80.00 ea for mags.
I could also just get ambitious and build a nice high cheekpiece and a buttpad spacer, we have the technology. And try out the NDR mags.

Was looking at T1X's too, could buy one from Basspro and put a different stock on it, MDT field or XRS, bit cheaper, or to about the same as a UPR, better adj factor too. Or I could choke up 1800.00 and get an Ace Target version T1X, and another 180.00 for NDR mags for it. Have a week to decide on it, see what MDT stocks may be on their blem sale, that may decide it.

Don't know exactly but it is pretty recent. Found it as in stock at several different places a couple of weeks ago. I will wait to see if it is priced out of ARA legal price range at the first of the year before I buy one.

"Just my own plinking at the range".
Like asking "What's better a Civic or a Corolla"?
"All I do is drive around town".

You got plenty of answers for such a vague question.
Here is mine:
-Never jams -CZ MTR $649 best price I find.
-Most accurate- Tikka. Mine was $479 new last month. GunBroker.
-They all shoot small groups.
How well depends on how lucky you get with the barrel lottery.

So if a cheap plinker is all you need buy the

CZ-USA, 457 Synthetic, Bolt Action, 22 LR, 20.5" $479 Dealer cost.

Neither of these would be my recommendation if you shoot ARA Factory.

UPR sells at 1450.00 in Cda, BF sale is at 1276.00, half CZ says 479US dealer cost?, that'd be about 675 Cdn, Basspro had on for 699 Cdn, one dealer was 670.00. Interesting. Had a local guy that wouldn't match the 1276 price, 3 other dealers had stock at that price.

I could've bought another CZ but ended up buying a T1x just to try something different. I'm really glad I did. IMO it has one of the best factory triggers there is aside from my 3 Anschutz rifles. It shoots darn close to my the two Anschutz factory rifles too and that's saying a lot. I actually kind of like the stock too. It's more solid than a lot of synthetic stocks I've handled. Just needed to add the recoil pad to get the length I needed. The vertical grip is a nice addition too. Yeah, it's not as modular as the 457's because the barrel's a little more difficult to change but I didn't buy it to customize. I ended up using it for ARA factory class and did really well with it. I now have a TriggerTech Diamond trigger coming for it and it should be even better. I may have to try it in ARA again at some point

In my experience with Tikka and CZ, the only time a "barrel lottery" becomes a factor is if you buy a CZ. I've had mixed results with CZ barrels. I doubt I'm alone in that dept, judging by the number of aftermarket barrels available for CZ rimfires.

With the Tikka, you're going to get a good barrel, in the small group of people that I know personally who have them. I don't know anyone that hasn't been happy with the barrel they got in the rifle.

As to stocks, any stock that will fit a T3 or T3x will also fit a T1x, with very minor inletting, if any.

This is mine, in a T3 Hunter stock.
Balance is good, it feels like a full sized rifle, and I like the looks of it. In fact, it's going to the range with me later today..

It currently has between 8000-10,000 rounds through it, zero problems so far. Stock trigger with a lighter spring gives me about 1.5 lb pull weight.

That's interesting, as it has been reported that both Lapua centers have claimed the Tx1 have been the most accurate factory rifles they have tested.
The reason I think for the popularity of the Bergara's are weight and the ease of getting a really good trigger. heaviest Tikka is the Ace at 8.2 lbs. but not legal for ARA factory class. MTR and UPR are all under 7lbs.

I am thinking of getting one to fool around with. I just got a factory trigger, and I am looking to see what I can do with it to make it lighter. a simple spring change has it down to under a 12-oz.

i tried a Jard on my ibi barreled t1x and i was very impressed. why did i spend double for a Bix and Andy for my T3x??

Regarding the Savage MKII

ANOMALY - An anomaly is something that deviates from the norm, is irregular, or is unusual. The term can be used in general contexts to describe an abnormality or a deviation from a pattern, but it also has specific meanings in various fields, such as astronomy, geology, physics, and a Savage MKII winning the ARA Nationals Factory match.

I’ve seen a few Savages show up at matches the last few years, but they give up or trade to something else. Christiansen’s too for that matter. There was another guy up north who did pretty well in 2022 with a Savage, Brian Thompson IIRC. He graduated to UL though.
Edit: Actually I sold him a scope or something and he told me he’d switched to CZ and later a B14R.
